I've always thought of myself as liberal because, until recently, I didn't realize there was a "centrist" option. Now, I'm more likely to consider myself Libertarian, because my views were so divided between the left and the right. Somebody mentioned "Socially left and economically right", and even though it's simple, it does feel better than calling myself liberal. I think the labels of liberal and conservative are too broad - I know several republicans who are pro-gay rights, and democrats who are pro-life. I don't think it's possible to divide it into two simple camps.
