The Washington Post: White House Counsel Miers Chosen for Court.
"If confirmed, Miers will become the first Supreme Court justice in more than three decades with no experience as a judge at any level."

_hannelore: You know, seriously, I think George W. Bush should have nominated a cute terrier as the new Supreme Court justice.
pauraque: Apparently to replace Sandra Day O'Connor the only requirement is to have a vagina.
_hannelore: A female terrier, then.

All joking aside, I find this a rather puzzling development.
