I really didn't like that movie. I always think Hamlet's a tough play because it's so very, very focused on one character - if Hamlet himself isn't played well there's really no way for the rest of the play to make up for it - and he's an awfully tricky character: if you don't play him right he comes across as a whiny, self-absorbed emo kid. And Branagh's Hamlet just did not do it for me, although I've liked him in other roles.
I wrote a review of the movie that my English professor at the time really liked. I remember it involving the phrase "Shut up, Branagh" repeated several times. (Re-reading it just now, I see that it also includes the phrase "It's the Hogwarts Express!" at one point. I have no idea what I was talking about there.)
I do remember really liking the way they handled Fortinbras, though.
