Maybe this will drive home for fans that the movies aren't canon -- they're merely interpretations.

I pretty much agree with everything you wrote. I was very much impressed, this movie went far and beyond what I thought the movies capable. I'm still upset that they cut so much back story, but I have hope for the deleted scenes.
