New Yorkers puzzled by pleasant smell.

I have returned.

I went to New York and saw GoF with [livejournal.com profile] _hannelore, [livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth, [livejournal.com profile] bowdlerized, [livejournal.com profile] gaeta, and [livejournal.com profile] idlerat. I don't think my opinion has significantly changed from the first time I saw it. (Of course it wasn't quite the same without [livejournal.com profile] noblerot clinging to me during all the Lucius scenes, though [livejournal.com profile] _hannelore did cling to me at some point when Cedric was being especially handsome, I think.) I haven't read any fandom reviews yet, but did anyone/everyone notice that in the scene where Harry approaches Cedric to tell him about the dragons, Cedric seems to be lying down with his head in a male student's lap, Draco/Pansy style? I mean, he is, isn't he? Or have I lost my mind?

[livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth, who is not actually a polar bear, cried at the end, though no one else did because we're heartless bastards.

[livejournal.com profile] idlerat also enjoyed it, avec analysis. But then she got sick and we didn't see her the rest of the weekend, and that was the cause of much sadness. *sends healing vibes in a ratly direction*

I also hung out with [livejournal.com profile] ziggy1278 and [livejournal.com profile] sistermagpie. Magpie is very much like I imagined her, and it's probably not surprising that we ended up talking animatedly about canon for quite a while, with [livejournal.com profile] _hannelore. Canontalk! Live and in person! Major highlight. Magpie also led us out-of-town people around Manhattan way more than she had to, because that is the kind of person she is. ♥

Then I briefly saw [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose and [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda er, make that [livejournal.com profile] jlh and [livejournal.com profile] epicyclical and about ten million other LJ types who aren't really in my circle at a Chinese restaurant. Does like half of HP fandom live in the NYC area, or what?

It was my first time meeting all those people, except for [livejournal.com profile] idlerat, whom I have been blessed with meeting three times now! I do love fan gatherings. Hm... When's Lumos, again?

Then I came home. As I predicted, the house is completely trashed, as I am the only one who cleans it. Plus, I think the apartment building next door stole my garbage can again. But the animals are still alive, so I will cope.

So, anything interesting happen on LJ while I was gone? Seriously, if there's anything you want me to see, point me. I'm not going to catch up with five days' worth of posting!

Other people have mentioned the lap thing, but I didn't catch it when I was watching. I was trying so, so hard to try to remember which actor was supposed to be Cedric! (Not that he's unrecognizable, but that I can't recognize new faces that reliably…. )

Oh yeah, and, welcome back!

*is welcomed*

I can't imagine how LJ coped without my divine presence!

Truly, it is a mystery. I found myself thinking pretty much daily, "when is pauraque getting back? there is a dearth in things I care to read about!"

Well, not quite so eloquently, but this comment is mostly sincere!

[identity profile] misentropic.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
I noticed it too. Knowing fandom, there are probably already screencaps and animated icons out there somewhere. :D

I noticed it the second time I saw the movie, but it still took me a while to really register it. In my world, it's not weird for a boy to put his head in another boy's lap, but in the world of Harry Potter movies? Yeah, different thing.

[identity profile] untiemybinds.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
There's this (http://www.livejournal.com/users/grrliz/294902.html) which shows that yes, Cedric did have his head in some dude's lap.
pauraque: bird flying (gof cedric is extremely handsome)

[personal profile] pauraque 2005-11-22 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Then it's true! Cedric has a boyfriend. Aw.

[identity profile] untiemybinds.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
Too bad it isn't Harry! I think Harry's jealous though. :))

Poor dead Cedric. I wonder how the boyfriend feels about it? People only think about Cho!

[personal profile] pauraque 2005-11-22 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Heterocentric bastards! I bet Nameless Hufflepuff Boy cried at least as much as Cho did.

Man, everybody's got Cedric's number. Dudley... Mike Newell...

[identity profile] tekalynn.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Followed link. Am so dead.

1 AM is much too late to be laughing this loudly. People are trying to sleep, dammit.

I took your garbage can.

And will you be sending me back pieces of it every day I don't pay the ransom?

"Oh my god, it's his left wheel! You MONSTER!"

[identity profile] silentauror.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
Just a fly-by comment! I just wanted to concur on the Cedric/head-in-lap thing, and leave a link to a pic (http://www.livejournal.com/users/grrliz/294902.html) for you. :) I went to see GoF again tonight, and this time I was looking for it. So nice. :)

I wonder if it's the same Hufflepuff boy Cedric jumps into the arms of after he puts his name in the Goblet.

[identity profile] silentauror.livejournal.com 2005-11-23 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
I expect so. :)

Although you never know. I have a feeling that boy gets around...

[identity profile] lycoris.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
Cedric had his head in someone's lap. I believe you should be linked to Cedric is Very, Very Gay (http://www.livejournal.com/users/roz_mcclure/626622.html) for proof and laughter. (well, it made ME laugh anyway!) Ah Cedric, you steal Harry's girlfriend and don't even appriciate her! :D

And nice to see you back!

[personal profile] pauraque 2005-11-23 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha! Cedric is indeed very, very gay.

[livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth who is not actually a polar bear

Nooooooo, she *is* a poly bear!!!!!!

It's good to have you back and sounds like you had a lot of fun without us!!

She's a polar bear on the inside. :)

Fandom meetings are like crack, man. I so wanna go to Lumos now. I'm sure there's a segment or two of my soul that could be sold...

(I wasn't just clinging at Cedric! It was, uh, Harry/Ron and Lucius and pervy!Myrtle and... well, okay, maybe. :)

This movie seems to seriously like just draping boys around for aesthetic effect--which is fine by me. Why sit on a bench when you can lie in your friends' lap? It's good to know that Cedric tasted an array of sexual fruits before dying at early death.

I had such a great time seeing you and [livejournal.com profile] _hannelore! Canon talk! And mummies! Yesterday I came across a mention of Sekhmet and thought of you--I don't think I'd even ever heard of her before. Clearly it's a sign of...something.

[identity profile] bowdlerized.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey sweetie pie, you didn't meet [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda, you met [livejournal.com profile] jlh, whose pseud is Clio. Owe you an e-mail. Glad you got home safely! ;|

Sometime during the weekend I know someone was talking about that Movies in 15 Minutes book deal thing, so I guess that's how I got confused.

[identity profile] slinkhard.livejournal.com 2005-11-23 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I laughed at the end, is that wrong?

[livejournal.com profile] mirabellawotr actually iconised Cedric and the lap, fyi.
pauraque: bird flying (Default)

[personal profile] pauraque 2005-11-23 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Which part of the end? If you laughed at poor handsome Cedric's untimely demise, then yes, that's wrong. :)

[identity profile] slinkhard.livejournal.com 2005-11-23 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I laughed at Dan's crying; Dumbledore's speech; Amos crying; the absurdly serious faces of even the Slytherins at the memorial assembley thingo...

[personal profile] pauraque 2005-11-23 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Remind me never to sit near you at a movie! :P

[identity profile] slinkhard.livejournal.com 2005-11-23 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I kind of pitied the people behind me, who look really affronted at the idea of someone not being Moved By the Tragedy. I should have gone to a nighttime showing or something...
