dear rarewomen author

Hello, RW writer! Are you excited? I'm excited!

In general, my tastes are pretty broad. I like gen, femslash, and het (and m/m, though it'd have to be in the background for this fest). I love character-driven fics about relationships, whether it's friendship, family, rivalry, romance, UST, sex, or any other dynamic. For me, the plot mostly exists to see what the characters will do.

With the rarer fandoms, I'd like to see something reasonably close to the tone of the canon (i.e. something light and silly for Wodehouse, something psychologically grounded and realistic for Topsy-Turvy). Harry Potter is a fandom I've been in for ages and seen just about everything, so it's up to you where you want to take it in terms of tone and style.

If you end up writing sex (and don't feel like you have to -- I won't be disappointed without it), feel free to do so in whatever manner is natural to you. I like both vanilla and kink and I am very hard to squick.

Among the few things I really don't like are gory violence, vivid descriptions of open-mouthed kissing (no dueling tongues, please), and cross-dressing played for a laugh (it's fine as a kink, plot point, or serious gender exploration, just not as a joke). Also, homophobia... I realize I've asked for three historical fandoms/settings, so if you're writing femslash it might be realistic for the characters to face some stigma, but I would ask that you not focus on that, nor write any character hating herself for her sexual preferences.

And for the sake of completeness, these were my fandom-specific requests:

Large Fandom: Harry Potter
Women: Helena Ravenclaw (The Grey Lady), Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff
Optional Details: I'd love to see something set during Helena's life that deals with her relationship with her mother, as well as the friendship between Rowena and Helga (and Rowena/Helga romance or romantic tension if that's something that interests you). Bonus points for exploring what the magical world was like in the 10th century -- that was a damn long time ago, longer than I think JKR really considered. Things should have been very different from today. (I'm not a medieval history expert, but I am a language buff, so if you include anything that touches on the languages that would have been spoken in those days, I'll be delighted.)

Fandom 2: Jeeves - P.G. Wodehouse
Women: Dahlia Travers
Optional Details: Not unlike Bertie, Dahlia always seems to be in a pickle of some kind, and I think she enjoys the chaos. I would love to see a light, Wodehouse-y story focusing on her -- what mess does she get into and how does she get out of it? Can be any era, even her school days if you like. Feel free to include any other characters and possible romantic entanglements between them, though I'd rather nothing more explicit than would actually appear in canon. I just want to see a complicated near-disaster that somehow turns out all right, preferably because Dahlia figures out how to fix it!

Fandom 3: Topsy-Turvy
Women: Jessie Bond, Leonora Braham, Lucy Gilbert, Fanny Ronalds, Miss Sixpence Please
Optional Details: Since this is a nonexistent fandom, I'd be thrilled to get any fic at all for it. But if you were hoping I'd provide ideas...

- I really like the dynamic between Jessie and Leonora. Something exploring that friendship would be good, and I'd enjoy femslash too if you're inclined.

- The real Fanny Ronalds never divorced her husband due to the stigma, but the real Jessie Bond was actually a divorcee (she left her husband after he abused her), and even remarried later in life. I don't think their characters ever interact in the movie, but it might be interesting to see what they'd talk about if they did.

- "Miss Sixpence Please" (or whatever real name you'd like to supply her with) -- I'd love to get into her head and see her take on things. Why did she come to England? Is it what she expected? I realize this prompt could be research-heavy if you're not familiar with Meiji Japan, so don't feel obligated to tackle it unless you're truly enthusiastic to do so.

- I'm a big G&S fan, so if you want to write about the production of any of the plays, rest assured that I will understand and appreciate it. :)

By the way, if you matched me on a different fandom and get stuck, Topsy-Turvy is just one movie and it should be easy to find, so don't count it out as a backup plan. (No, this is not a shameless ploy to get more people to see this awesome movie. Well, maybe a little.)

Oh, and have fun!
