det regner menn

I'm afraid I'm still pretty ill and not able to keep up on things as I'd like to, but I had to share a little laugh I had this morning while doing my Norwegian lesson on Duolingo. I've just started and am still struggling with every word, which I think made it even funnier to me when I figured it out.

♥ to all.

It's enough to make a person believe in magic and stuff! :)

We were really happy with that report – of course it's going to take time because new structures will need to be planned and changes implemented from the ground up. But there's political will to do it now, it seems. The health ministry has been working at speed and got a law proposal about self-determined legal gender sent out before the summer holidays. It makes me happy that they're moving so quickly; it's a sign that they're seriously committed to change things.

Hah, the idea of Parker scowling over your Norwegian at dinner makes me giggle! You should teach him to say "Gi deg, pappa!"

Love you too, søtnos! :)

Yes, we saw the bit about self-determined gender, too. If that goes through you'll be way ahead of the US in that area. In some states, even adults have to go before a judge and explain why they want their legal gender changed in front of the entire courtroom. :( They'd changed that requirement in California before I had to deal with it, but I still had to get a doctor to fill out a statement that my gender was male, as well as being "complete" and not "transitional". Pretty degrading, really.

Gi deg, pappa!

Sorry, I don't know this one! Is it an idiom? Trying to look it up didn't get me far.

The courtroom thing sounds horrible! :( And I agree, the requirements that you faced were bad enough. Here, until the recent ruling that genital surgery won't be a requirement to change legal gender, you had to not only have a doctor comfirm you were 'complete', but it had to be the Oslo university transgender clinic (because they were the only ones qualified to make that call, apparently... wtf).

Norwegian lesson of today: 'Gi deg' literally means 'surrender', 'give yourself [up]', in the imperative, but it's also an idiomatic expression for 'stop it', as in, 'OMG stop it, Daaaad'. *g*
