Fic a Week 10 - FTL
Dreamed this last night. Yeah, I dream about space travel, what of it?

FTL
The Earth recedes, and the Moon, and it is days in between passing the other planets. She looks out the window at the swirling storms of Jupiter and she tries to make it real, tries to force it into sublimity -- will she ever see this again? She should feel awe. She should feel God. She has seen Jupiter this close a thousand times, in pictures on a glowing screen.
The Kuiper belt lasts for a week, and there is nothing particular to see. She can't tell the difference when they're out of it, except for the new agitation of the crew, their tension and preparation.
She is asleep when the drive is engaged; there was no jolt, no shaking, no roar of turbines -- what did she expect? Coming to herself, she glances to the window, and then scrambles up to get closer, pressing her palms against the cold, clear aluminum.
Outside it is all sunset shades of red and violet, alternating membranes that race towards them and they punch through, over and over, tearing through walls. Her heart is pounding, but it looks so impossible, so cinematic... She turns and slides down, sits on the floor with her face in her hands, and she laughs.

Also: I really like in this one, that they can't go to warp until they leave the system. Makes sense.
