I'm very flattered by all the nice feedback notes I've had on 'Microcosmos' -- thank you -- but [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1's was easily the funniest. :D

Also, I brought up the kerb/curb issue in [livejournal.com profile] hp_britglish here. It looks like 'kerb' (the raise in the pavement that keeps cars off the sidewalk) is standard British usage, distinguishing it from 'curb' (curb your enthusiasm). The two are pronounced the same; it's a spelling thing. Good to know.

I was thinking about why I found Lupin/Harry tricky to write, and part of it is that... Lupin's reasonable. He's flawed, but he isn't nuts. There are things he won't do (without a lot of buildup to them), simply because he knows they're crazy things to do. Peter, on the other hand, can plausibly be made to do almost anything -- he has no boundaries. You don't have to push very hard to get him to do whatever batshit thing you want him to do in your fic, and have the reader believe it.

It shouldn't be a surprise that Peter/Ron is my OTP. I like to pair a nutcase with no boundaries with someone who's teetering on the edge of reason. The tension is not so much in whether they'll "get together" as how far the reasonable character will slide into the world of the unreasonable character. The drama is in watching him or her walk the line. Krycek/Marita follows this model. So does Jack/Will.

Ron and Marita fill similar roles in my fic. They're fence-sitters, they slip in and out of reasonable behavior, they're barely holding on. What's interesting about them (in my fic) is their view of the other, the Unreasonable -- their intimacy with them. Though I use Ron's POV, no one calls my fic Ron-centric.

Lupin/Harry doesn't fit these themes at all. They're fumbling towards stability -- you can imagine a happy ever after that roughly fits the real-life model of a relationship of equals. The pairing is a departure for me because it's almost normal!

[livejournal.com profile] scarah2 is doing chapter-by-chapter commentary on Philosopher's Stone. She's up to chapter four.

[livejournal.com profile] caesia390 pointed to this very cool HP art site, La Pensine d'Harry Potter. I love this artist's style -- it makes me want to see an animated HP movie with her as the art director. Like, really bad. Don't worry if you don't speak French, the layout is pretty obvious. And if you want to send feedback, you can just say "J'aime bien votre art!"

And [livejournal.com profile] wolfie_thu drew Hippie!Snape. Hee.
