Thank you to those who sent cards! I received a lovely one with an ibis from someone whose RL name begins with M, but I'm afraid after racking my brain all day, I can't figure out who sent it. Help? :\

Very related: I am still having health problems. I've been to a lot of doctors but haven't found a definitive diagnosis so far, and at this point I'm reluctant to even say what the current theory is, because all previous theories have eventually been proven incorrect, and it starts to feel foolish to have to keep correcting myself. But whatever it turns out to be, the biggest issue right now is cognitive — I'm struggling with memory, concentration, and ability to do mentally strenuous tasks without becoming totally exhausted.

There are still rewarding things I can do with my time despite these challenges, and I'm grateful for that, but fandom is not really one of them. I'm trying to figure out a way to participate, because I miss you guys. I can still read my flist and comment sometimes, but I am afraid soon my comments will begin to be met with choruses of "who?" since I have disappeared otherwise. (My gaming friends, conversely, are probably getting sick of the sight of me, since actiony/repetitive tasks are something I am a champ at right now.)

In summary, I am really behind on everything AS USUAL, but I have a pretty good excuse this time!

I hope those of you who are celebrating holidays around this time are enjoying them, and I hope to be around more in the new year, if I can. ♥

I am really, really, really behind on everything. I'm sorry! My health is only improving gradually and I've had to continue severely rationing the energy I'm spending on things, but I hope to catch up with online stuff soon.

Apropos of nothing, I was supposed to have a gold crown put on at the dentist last week. Supposed to. And almost did. Until the key moment when the dentist was about to fit it on, but lost her grip on it and dropped it directly down my throat, whereupon my swallow reflex triggered and the crown was gone for good. I didn't even register what was happening until it was over.

The dentist was extremely apologetic and offered to pay for everything, and the nurse I called assured me that swallowing a small piece of gold was very unlikely to be harmful. (Apparently gold is sometimes used as a supplement for arthritis sufferers?)

So that was my excitement for the month.

So, I was trying to write a post for today, and then suddenly... my backspace key stopped working. The symbolism is killing me.

The keyboard I use is old (2008, I think) and this isn't the first time I've had trouble with it, but this time the usual fiddling and restarting isn't fixing it. I'll probably try to open it up and see if there's something stuck in the mechanism (I'm one of those bad people who eats at the computer), but if I have to replace it, I'm going to be sad. I like this keyboard! And I like backspacing!

Maybe if it can't be fixed I'll simply resolve to never make another mistaek.

Damnn.

1:00am Bedtime.

6:00am Huge loud trucks arrive to do huge loud maintenance on the power lines directly outside our building. Second day in a row. They couldn't have been closer to my bedroom without being inside the building. I opened the window to see what was going on, and was eye to eye with a person standing on one of those mobile crow's nest things working on the line.

6:05am Move to Hannelore's bedroom which is on the opposite side of the apartment.

6:30am Hannelore's alarm goes off.

6:45am Power shuts off while Hannelore is in the shower. The loss of power causes the carbon monoxide alarm to make its "low battery" noise which consists of a piercing chirp every 10 seconds or so. We cannot turn it off.

So today has already been shitty beyond shitty, and then I was doing my laundry at the laundromat and left while it was in the dryer, and when I came back it was gone.

I asked the people around if they saw anyone take it out, and looked everywhere, and told the woman who worked there. Nada. So I gave her my phone number and left, thinking that now I was going to have to go buy clothes for work tomorrow. Because... hi, no wearable clothes. At all.

About 15 minutes later she called and said someone returned some clothes, so I ran back and they were mine. She didn't speak a lot of English so I didn't get the exact details, she was like "Some boys, they got confused", but she made a sarcastic face like she didn't believe it was an accident... man, I dunno.

But YAY CLOTHES. Omg. It's not even "thank God for small favors". That was totally a big favor! I mean friggin thanks! O_O

I'm never leaving my clothes at the laundromat for half an hour again.

9:30 Awakened by Boss calling to say she is stuck on the freeway because an 18-wheeler is crashed across 6 lanes of traffic, and can I run to work and open the store until she gets there?

9:30-10:00 Walking to work.

10:00-10:45 Working.

10:45 Boss arrives and thanks me profusely for saving her from having to open the store late, though really, our Overlord probably would have understood, it's not like she asked to get stuck behind an auto accident, and he could have checked the news to verify it was real.

10:45-11:15 Walking home.

11:15-1:00 Writing. Procrastinating. Writing. Wishing I had started this week's fic earlier than yesterday. Procrastinating. Writing.

1:00-1:30 Going to the bookstore and finding out they don't have any of the DVDs I was considering buying.

1:30-2:00 Chinese food.

2:00-2:30 Walking to work again (at the actual time I was scheduled).

2:30-6:45 Working.

6:45-7:15 Walking home again.

And now for the shower I never took this morning.

My refrigerator is also broken.

Working overtime every day this week because of Valentine's Day, or Singles Awareness Day as one of my friends sadly but adorably calls it.

It's been rather cold lately (though of course "cold" is quite relative, pace [livejournal.com profile] _hannelore). Yesterday one of the homeless people who hangs out near my work came into the store and asked Boss if we sold candles. I watched this interaction very carefully because she has a thing against homeless people but this particular guy was certainly no threat (he sometimes comes in and asks me nicely to trade him bills for coins).

Anyway, she showed him the votive candles. He asked which was the cheapest and she told him. I was at the register, so I ended up ringing him up for a $2.50 scented candle, which he paid for and left. I thought for a second, should I give him a discount? Isn't that even more absurd, if I was going to do that shouldn't I just give him the candle for free? He's buying this vanilla scented votive candle presumably to warm his fucking hands, I can't imagine why else.

I try to feel lucky instead of guilty. Compared to the majority of people, I have a lot. I have much more than I need.

(Only using the guilty mood because I love my mood theme and rarely see most of it, since I use the same four moods all the time.)

My phone broke and I'm having to get a new one. This makes me very sad, because I loved my old phone (I paid extra to get it instead of whatever crappy phone came with the plan) and they don't make it anymore.

Perhaps it's better that it broke outright, since it was limping along for quite a while, unable to hold a battery charge for any significant length of time. I know they manufacture them so that the battery will eventually go bad and you'll have to get a new one, but I was willing to cope with it until I move, since MetroPCS doesn't cover Vermont and I'm going to have to get a new plan then anyway.

I'm moving in August, by the way... /flail

But far more importantly:

Yes.

So LJ lays off a bunch of employees, triggering everyone to freak out that the company is about to go under; users back up their journals and prepare to flee to greener pastures.

The punchline.

Early this morning I kept waking up thinking that I needed to put water in my snake's bowl. This was untrue, as I had just done so the previous day.

When I left for work I can't honestly say I looked at her terrarium. When I came home she was dead.

She was 15 years old, which is pretty venerable for a corn snake, so I believe it was old age... I'm not going to bother with a necropsy. I had a good vet for her who brought her back from some serious problems in the past, but she just didn't seem sick this time.

This was a pet I had since I was 11 (I'm now 26). So yeah. This sucks.

God I have a gigantic headache. And I feel nauseated. Oh boy, am I going to get sick the week before Christmas when I can't possibly take off work? YAY.
