Man, I get so weirdly uncomfortable announcing big things and I never know how to preface them, so just imagine there's a smooth and natural-sounding segue here and then read the following sentence: [personal profile] hannelore and I are getting married next year!

I really want to write something thorough about why this is important to me, why legal marriage, and why now (I've been accused of many things, but making snap decisions is not one of them), but I haven't managed to get into the right mindset for it yet. It'll come.

But for now, yes! This is a thing that is happening and now you know about it!

Also, because people are asking: My [community profile] fandom_stocking is here. This makes it sound like I'm soliciting engagement presents, I know, but I promise it's coincidental.

Now back to your regularly scheduled memes.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! Things did get better. I got in a nap, and Hannelore made me a yummy cake.

Also of interest: The company that was playing with the power lines didn't have a proper permit from the city, didn't inform any of the property owners that they were turning off the power, and were violating an ordinance that construction can't be done before 7am. Hannelore got the cops called on them. :D :D :D

Last day of work just happened! It was only a half day. My boss got me a cupcake that said "Bon Voyage" (spelled correctly, sorry [livejournal.com profile] cakewrecks), and there was a card everybody signed. It was quite darling.

One of my minions also wrote me a personal note thanking me for being so encouraging (it's her first job, she's a baby) and helping her "understand [our boss] better" -- lol, euphemism for "telling me our boss is insane so don't worry about what she says".

The people from the store next door got me a brownie but I couldn't eat it because, chocolate, so I gave it to my boss. But it was nice of them!

And now I am one of the unemployed masses.

In other news, some of the people I play wow with ARE DUMB.

me: There are 18 days left until you have to pay for the web site hosting.

18 days: *pass*

them: The web site is down.

As previously reported, I finally applied to have the gender changed on my ID. Thus:

omghai2u2 )

At the moment this picture was taken, a small child ducked under the velvet rope and ran in front of me, thus eluding its parent who was chasing it. Also, was there like a fan blowing from my right or does my hair really look like that? Damn.

Um otherwise yeah, the important part. They got that right. The great state of California knows I'm a boy now.

Relatedly, when I went with my friend to see Star Trek, I insisted that I would pay for both of us, because he was paying for gas and I wanted to be nice, but then I realized I had no cash and the cashier wanted to see ID for a card... and I had no valid ID. All I had was a receipt from the DMV, and he was like lolno. So then my friend had to pay for both of us, and I felt like a tool. >_<

[livejournal.com profile] maidenjedi wrote me a Krycek/Marita ficlet and it is totally perfect and might possibly have made me squee. In a grown-up sort of way. *cough*

And omg, people, did you see [livejournal.com profile] nopejr's three awesomely hilarious HP ficlets? Took me right out of a horrible mood and made me laugh like a loon.

In an ironic development, today I went to the DMV to have the gender marker on my ID changed to M. (I don't get all butthurt over having only two options and expect them to provide a free text field, because they are a faceless dystopian government entity. You see the difference.)

I put off doing this for a long time for several reasons )

I think this calls for French toast for lunch.

Whoa! Um... I wrote a lot. About being transgendered, and specifically being happy about it. I don't know if anyone wants to read this! But here it is if you do.

I became consciously aware that I didn't want to be a girl when I was about 13 )

Fucking YES.

I had a post in mind about gender identity and gay cultural icons, but I am le tired. Suffice it to say for now that the interesting part is this... I've been -- well I suppose the PC thing is to say I've been transgendered since birth, but -- I've been consciously transgendered for something like 11 years. (Saving you a trip to my userinfo, I'm 26.) And it's only been within the past 6 months or so that I've begun to find it a joy and not a burden.

I will try to make that post since it might actually be interesting, unlike most of the impenetrable nonsense usually found in this space.

Context: This plus this and subsequent discussion of same

and so

I was, unrelatedly, having a shit-tastic morning, and had occasion at work to point out to a customer that she had to put her coffee down (no drinks allowed cause people spill em daily if we allow it), which caused her to walk out in a ridiculous huff

and turn at the door and say quite venomously to me, "Asshole!"

and I *cracked up* because omgwtf weird confluence of things

and my mood was much improved.

The other customer in front of me was horrified at Coffee Lady's rudeness and thought it was incredible that I was able to literally laugh it off. What can I say.

You only get sworn in as President once, it'd be nice if they could not screw it up. Almost as bad as Neil Armstrong blowing his lines.

Aside from that, it was my brother's birfday. He turned 21. This is a perplexing development, as I'm fairly sure he was a small baby yesterday.

And something quite good was accomplished by a person dear to my heart! (I almost wrote that something good "happened to" her, but that would be very inaccurate.) A painful chapter was closed and a new beginning embarked upon. Sorry this is about as detailed as a newspaper horoscope, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to tell people about it. :P

My sinuses didn't explode. A friend suggested I boil water and put a towel over my head and breathe the steam, which was sound advice. I can sort of breathe now, which is an improvement, though talking is touch and go.

I discovered there is a "low cost" optometry clinic somewhere, which I need because I don't have eyeball insurance and my glasses aren't glassing very well. To sign up for it you apparently have to call on a Thursday between 11:30 and 12:00. To be honest this is not very encouraging, but we'll see. I expect there's a long waiting list.
