Sorry to hear that you and your snake have come to this fork in the road. It's so hard to let go of anyone you've had in your life that long.
Early this morning I kept waking up thinking that I needed to put water in my snake's bowl.
She was probably on her way out at that point. My experience is that we're often roused in this way when something like this is going on.
I remember walking up the hill one day, when I lived in SoCal, and coming across a dying rat on the path ahead of me (it seemed as if it had probably been poisoned.) I picked it up on a large leaf and set it in the shade of a tree and just sat there and talked quietly to it for a while. It could have been pure coincidence, of course, but I felt as if I'd come that way at that particular time to provide some small measure of peace or comfort or caring to the little guy.
