Re: the WIP-posting thing - these are supposed to be works-in-progress that are never going to be finished and which, in most cases, have never seen the light of day.
Most of the fandoms in which I've been involved don't look particularly kindly on people posting wip's (which meant, generally speaking, that nobody posted them). I was extremely anti-wip when I got into HP - I wouldn't even glance at them - until I realized that wips were basically how HP operated and I gave in.
