Yeesh. Yesterday sure sucked. Now let's look at pictures of baaaaaby animals.

This is Catherine the Great. She had literally just shed when these pictures were taken (you can see her discarded skin in the background), so she's at her shiniest!

Here you can see her "piano keys" ventral pattern, characteristic of wild type corn snakes.

I took some kitty pictures too.

Dana's favorite window spot, at least while I'm working. Preferred activities while in this position include hitting my hands with her tail while I'm trying to type, and pushing the keyboard off the table with her back legs.

Aw!

And finally, a slug.

A typical example of the many slugs that have been mysteriously appearing in my kitchen. This one is about four inches long, but I've had bigger. Ew, my kitchen floor is covered with cat hair.

Everybody better now? Gooood.

Pretty, pretty snake, cute cat, and how on earth do slugs get into the kitchen?! Weird...

I have no idea. They appear mysteriously when I'm not looking. It happened again last night!

That's just wrong... freaky, and wrong... if slugs can turn doorknobs, we're all doooomed! :O

That is a gorgeous snake. She's all... shiny and smooth-looking. Such pretty colors, and I've never seen the piano key pattern before.

She's a very pretty girl! There are all sorts of specially-colored corn snake variants, but I like the wild type the best.

For some reason the slug picture makes me laugh. Apparently, I'm just as slap happy as I was last night.

I wanna touch the snake!

You're welcome to touch the snake, but you have to drive up here first. :)

You have a very pretty snake! (and these comments don't sound obscene, do they?)

My kitty's favorite spot while I'm working is on the keyboard tray, between me and the keyboard. This way, to work, I have to peer around her and either type one-handed or twine my arms between her legs.

My cat also likes to pause contemplatively on her way to the window -- right in front of the monitor.

Wow, she's gorgeous! (oh, you too, Dana, you fluffy and pushy cat you.) She certainly looks like a touchable snake, verrrrrry pretty. I can just see her saying, "Write more ssssssssmut, amigo." ;)

Okay, yeah, that's a huge slug. Ew.

How pretty your critters are! The kitty, obviously, but the snake too -- so bright and alert. They really are some of the most graceful creatures.

Not to make the slug feel left out or anything. *g*

Oh, and my kitchen floor tends to come covered in cat hairs, too, if that's any consolation. Especially when both our (very long-haired) cats blow their undercoat in spring/early summer -- it's a regular hair explosion. :)

Ooooh, what a lovely snake! And ooooh, nice cat! I like it! *giggles at the idea of the cat knocking your fingers whenever you type* And ugh, massive big slug. Is there a hole in your floor somewhere or something?

Not that I know of. I think they get in magically.

Catherine is extremely decorative. Very cool. And I love your comments about Dana's favorite spot. Mica (Paul's cat, who has spent the greater part of his life on Paul) loves to sit between Paul and his keyboard. As to the slug, it's quite a healthy size, isn't it?

Re the cat hairs: maybe I should send Ben to mop your kitchen floor. He recently reached the ripe old age of 18 where you're either contributing rent money in this household or putting in maintenance time. And I have to say I'm really enjoying my clean fridge and other projects I'd always meant to get to but never quite did.

Thank you for the wonderful pictures, Eo! One of my roomates in college kept a corn snake in the dorm for a while (who loved to escape, or it would have been there longer); it looked a bit like Katherine, but much paler--more a golden beige and tan, than her brighter markings.

(The cat and slug (?!) were much appreciated as well, ;-)

Glenn

Corn snakes do *love* to escape. They also enjoy creeping into dark places. Catherine managed to get out and wedge herself behind a bookshelf at one point; I had to lure her out by dangling a mouse in front of her.
