So now I've gone on a weird underappreciated pairing kick. Not that this is uncharacteristic of me... I never end up writing mainstream pairings -- just ask these guys.

I also have a habit of illustrating my WIPs and then not finishing the stories. Although, in this case, that might not be such a bad thing...





Hm... who's that Snape's with? I wonder if anyone can guess. I'll give you a hint: It ain't Remus.

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark (ouch!) and say that Snape's going out with Peter, given that you seem to like, or at least are intrigued by PP and the fact the cat is staring at him with intense interest.

I like this pic. The stances and body language feel realistic to me.

Heh. When I was in school, people started "dating" in 6th grade, when we were 11, so it doesn't seem odd to me. They do look a bit older than I'd intended here... this is supposed to be a few months before Snape starts Hogwarts, and Filch is maybe a year older than him. If it makes you feel any better, the illustration is more symbolic than a literal depiction of what happens in the fic.

Mmmm. Angst.

If you like angst, you're gonna like this story (if I manage to finish it). Youthful Angst aplenty.

Is Filch really that young? I'm thinking of the movie here... Of course, he does talk about torturing students, and we know that Dumbedore became headmaster when Remus was a kid, so, er, mental math... Filch would be at least a few years older to have worked in the Dippet era... If I'm remembering Remus's dialog from PoA correctly. But what the hell? It's fanfiction. Do what you want; I can't wait to read it.

Oh, damn, I think you're right. I'm at work, so I can't check, but I think Filch did imply he'd worked under Dippett -- and the age issue isn't such a problem, but that is. Darn, there goes my premise! Well, at least I've got the picture...

Nah, I'm too much of a canon whore for that. However, now that I've got the books in front of me, I think I can manage it -- Filch *implies* that he's carried out these various punishments in the past, but I can't find anywhere he actually *states* he's done it. Hm.

Since Filch is a squib, it could be that he never went to school - definitely not a magical one - but was taken on as an apprentice to the previous caretaker at, perhaps, 11 ^_^ So you could make him only a few years older than Snape and still have him around before Dumbledore was made Headmaster (doesn't Remus say something that he didn't count on Hogwarts, and then AD took over and he got his change? or is this fanfic?)

Yes, this is correct. He says, "It seemed impossible that I would be able to come to Hogwarts. [...] But then Dumbledore became Headmaster, and he was sympathetic." [PoA 258 UK paperback]

The idea that Filch was apprenticed to the previous caretaker (whose name was Ogg, if I recall correctly), is what I'm probably going to go with, yeah. Thanks for the encouragement. :)
