I have to point out that there would be more National Guardsmen available to cope with this catastrophe if so many of them had not been deployed to fight a foreign war.

On the news, a reporter was filming a woman who was wading through the water carrying boxes of shoes. He asked her what she was doing. She turned around and yelled at him, infuriated: My kids don't have shoes, they're cutting their feet walking in the water.

Oh, Eo. I just found out a friend of mine is missing in New Orleans. You'd have loved him. Let me spike your lemonade. Let's drink.

I'm pretty proud of my flist these days. It's a news service unto itself. As for our govenment... if there's any justice in the cosmos, any "intelligent design" as it were, there's gotta be a special place in hell for Bush and company.

True. But it does not really help that the order to get them from other states was not made until (I think?) Wednesday. More of those are arriving now.

Thank you. I grow a little weary of people wanting to look at pictures of looters and judge whether they think those goods are ok to loot or not. Everyone is dying and people don't have anything and they are desparate so they are just grabbing shit. If they don't, someone else will. Everything is going to be ruined anyway, there are three fires going on now. I remain somehow confident that Voldemart will manage to avoid bankruptcy.

You can send desperately needed goods, too - like TP, diapers, and so on.

You don't have to send it down yourself, you can go to an online store like Target or Wal-Mart and have your order sent to CoffeeCup.

My wee state organized drop-offs for the most needed items and they were so overwhelmed with the outpouring of donations, they're opening the drop-off sites for today as well. I'm going to make sure I give them all the shoes that P's outgrown. Then a convoy will head out with all our best wishes.
