Why on god's green earth can I not get DVDs to play properly on this computer? Seriously, can anyone help with this?
Comp has a Celeron processor, had memory installed recently, hard drive is cluttered but there's about 300MB free. The drive is a DVD ROM drive, albeit an old one, and I'm told this drive has successfully played a DVD in the past, though I don't know with what software. There was no DVD software I could find installed, so I downloaded WinDVD. It runs, the audio works, but I can't get the *video* to work to save my life. All different settings, resolutions -- all I get is a blank screen. When I hit the automatic screen capture function, I do get screen caps from the right part of the movie, so it ain't the disk itself, and the program is comprehending the fact that there's a picture, on some level.
So what do I have to do to make this thing work? Any ideas at all?
