pauraque_bk: (christmas peter)
This week I pondered getting some mice, and then eventually rejected the idea, deciding that with the cat's illness, I didn't have the time to devote to more pets.

So, of course, today a co-worker of mine discovered two baby wild mice in the break room. We've had an ongoing mouse problem, so leaving them alone was out of the question. Putting them outside seemed cruel; they'd surely die of cold.

So, I took them home. I already had a suitable cage for them, but I don't know how they'll do. They have all their fur, but they're tiny. One of them doesn't seem to have his eyes open all the way; he can walk, but seems abnormally lethargic and docile, as though he's too young to leave his mom. The other is the same size, but very energetic.

I gave them an extremely shallow dish of water so that they wouldn't drown in it. I don't really know what to feed them... I gave them some wet cat food, but I haven't seen them eating it. Should I try milk? I need help from someone who knows more about rodents. ([livejournal.com profile] ani_bester?)

I've been calling the lively one Alastor, because one of his legs seems kind of gimpy. I'm calling the other one Jesus (Spanish pronunciation), since frankly I think it'd be a Christmas miracle if he survives.

Llama, I LOVE the drabble. Are you going to post them all at some point?
