Tally ho! (or, the kink count)

I was curious to see what kinks were requested most often in this year's pornish_pixies Fantasy Fest, so I went through both pages and tallied them up.

There are some quirks to the list, of course. In many cases I had to try to gauge 'voter intent'. When a requestor said "coersion" I ticked dub-con, and when they said "rape" I ticked non-con, but people can argue over the precise meanings of these terms all day. I didn't always add a tally to chan when an underage participant was requested -- only when the requestor actually said "chan" or it seemed that the character's youth was important. I did tick incest when cousins were paired, though I know many non-Americans don't consider that incest at all.

I tried to distinguish D/s from any variety of non-con, but often it was hard to tell what the requestor was really asking for. In general, where they said dominance rather than force, submission rather than slavery, BDSM, giving orders, taking charge, consensual bondage, Dom![character], Sub![character]... that all went into D/s. It's probably still too much of a catchall, but there was a lot of it any way you count.

I didn't consider threesomes to be a kink for the list, though now I wish I'd counted how often they were asked for -- it was a lot. I also didn't count how often teacher/student pairings were requested. In retrospect, I probably should have broken up the voyeurism/discovery/public sex category into more specific categories, and maybe some other quibbly things like distinguishing between werewolf sex, animagus sex, and sentient nonhuman sex rather than just grouping them all as bestiality. (I don't think anyone asked for sex with a non-magical animal.) I also don't have categories for a few really vague things like "romance", which was mentioned a couple of times, and "darkfic" or "angst", both of which got lots of mentions.

The middle of the list has some more specific variations on the top kinks, as well as some things you'd expect in a lot of fic but were not usually asked for per se. (Fellatio: Ask For It By Name!) These were all requested between ten and twenty times.

Then there were quite a few requested fewer than ten times, but more than once. I made sure to give "tie kink" its own category separate from bondage; it's one of the local charms of our fandom, I think. The movies may not be canon, but they sure do encourage the smutmongers.

I had never heard of hair-pulling as a fetish until now.

Kinks requested by only one person included fingernail scratching, leather, PVC, foot fetish, pegging (it's a crime that only one person wanted this!), fire play, mpreg, Quidditch equipment, loss of bowel control, and T.S. Eliot.
