...if you had a time-turner, couldn't you also use it to sleep twice as long, or take naps during the day? If anything, having access to one should make you end up less tired, not more.
Ohh, I would sleep. And read fics. And WRITE fics. Then I would sleep some more Then I would realize I have a test tomorrow, jump back a week and study.
Of course, if someone gave me a time-turner I'd end up aging amonth each day ^^;
You *should* be able to*, though how much time you can actually turn might limit you. If it's only an hour or two (just long enough for Hermione's classes), then it might be hard to arrange.
But I have wondered why fanfic writers who have Snape juggling spying, teaching, and House duties don't give him a time-turner so he can catch up on his *sleep*.
In theory. But for Hermione to be *more* tired makes perfect sense, because she's an honorable little twirp. She was told not to use the Time-Turner for anything but class, and that's exactly what she did.
I think it's possible that Dumbledore and McGonagall, in allowing Hermione to use it, were angling for the Time-Turner to loosen her up a bit. Dumbledore especially seems to recognize the importance of knowing when to bend the rules. And now that I'm thinking about it, the converse might be true. They might have decided to let her do it in order to test her, to see if Hermione Granger could be the proper straight-laced member of the trio. Hmm. Thoughts now. DAMNIT.
Well, that's true. A wakeful time-traveller can actively avoid situations that would cause problems. But I imagine that if Hermione had really wanted to catch up on her sleep (which, as others have pointed out, might be out-of-character for her), she could have hidden somewhere pretty safe. At least as safe as assuming not a single student in the school would figure out she was turning up in two classes at once.
She was told not to use the Time-Turner for anything but class, and that's exactly what she did.
That's a point. Also, she may have realized that time travel is dangerous to start with, and she was already using it for something pretty frivolous, so she decided not to mess with it any more than necessary. Which is why this:

--is such a scary possibility. But very in-character for Dumbledore.

We know it can do three hours. I certainly wouldn't mind waking up and then going back to sleep again for three hours every morning...
Logically, once time travel is possible, you should be able to go back as far as you want -- why would it be limited? Hermione's time-turner may be intentionally limited, by the fact that you have to manually turn it for every hour, so she wouldn't be able to go back too far. But since the technology exists, I'd assume that whoever has access to it can make a time travel device without that limitation. Hm.

Quite right, there's no reason for this. Sleeping in private rooms, there'd be no chance of anyone finding out.

They must be pretty confused, what with the staircases and all.
