aka "totally cool guy"

I turned off the alarm last night hoping to get massive amounts of sleep, and was instead awakened at about 7:30 by my phone ringing. I ignored it, got up to take another vicodin, and went back to sleep until 11:30. Yay.
When I checked the phone it was a missed call from Other Store Manager, so I called him back. He said he hadn't called me... but oh, his son was playing with the phone this morning, sorry sorry sorry! Aw, kids.
So here's something that didn't turn out to be nearly as interesting as it might have been. (That is a great title for an anecdote.)
Our New Overlord (who still seems pretty normal and less crazed than Old Overlord) decided to change payroll companies, so we all had to fill out our tax paperwork again. Very well, except I couldn't find my social security card, nor did I have time to get a new one. So I had to use one of the alternative forms of ID.
The only one available to me was my passport, which was issued in 2002 and shows my birth name on the main part, and my correct legal name on the AKA page. That's actually a funny story in itself, because at that point my name *had* been legally changed, but you can only put it on the main page of your passport if it's been changed for five years or something weird and arbitrary like that. Of course by now it's been long enough, but I never bothered to have my passport reissued, because I wasn't visiting any foreign countries.
So basically I was going to have to out myself to my boss, who was the one filling out the forms. I guess I was a little concerned, but not *really*? I mean she's already known me for two years, and even if for some reason she decided to make a big deal out of it, I'm already going to be leaving that job in a couple of months when I move. She's also very much against talking about co-workers' personal lives, I've never known her to gossip about anyone or pry about my business. And this situation impressed upon me how I'm not nearly as anxious and self-conscious about being trans as I used to be, which is yay.
So I mentioned something about having to use my passport, and she was like "You mean you still never found your social security card?"
Which reminded me that I'd had to do the same damn thing when I first started the job! All I'd said was "I changed my name so you have to copy the AKA page too, it shows my correct legal name there" and flashed my ID also to demonstrate that the "AKA" was indeed my legal name and the passport department is just wacky.
If she comprehended what this meant, she didn't say anything about it, then or since then! Or now when looking at the same passport again.
So yeah, no crisis. And my boss is either really polite about not mentioning shit that doesn't concern her, or incredibly unobservant. I think it's the former, which is nice! Everybody has a nice side.
In closing, one of my minions brought his school friend to work, and introduced me as "This is [
pauraque] the assistant manager, he's a cool guy."
addendum: I found my social security card. :P
addendum2: and now I can't find my W2!
