I survived Mother's Day at work. I personally took down hundreds of unsold cards from the wall (this is a normal amount, we don't worry about not selling out because we get credit for what we don't sell), inventoried them by writing numbers down on a piece of paper, and put up hundreds of Father's Day cards in their place. Like, with my hands.

Father's Day is the last actual card holiday before I leave this job. Yay. I like my job, but I hope the next one USES A COMPUTER FOR INVENTORY. Jesus.

Also, I have gotten some people friending me on Dreamwidth and Twitter whose names I don't recognize. If I can't tell who you are, I probably won't add you back, so just tell me or something.

I may have figured out what I'm going to use Dreamwidth for, but more on that later.

Oh, that sounds horrible - and I remember doing the same with Christmas stock before we got our electronic scanner. Every year, my workplace sees every other shop going mental about stocktake, and we all get to feel smug because we have electronic inventory and check through all the stock several times over the course of the year, on quiet days. No rush, no little bits of paper everywhere, and it means the only thing we have to check more regularly is the dangerous drugs safe, which has special regulations.

My son works at Lowe's, as big a corporate outfit as you'll find, and yet he says that you can't do a simple search with their computer system (i.e. entering 'brass widget'.) You can only type in manufacturers and then look through their lists of products. Eventually, while you're futilely searching, the customer gives up and walks away.

I fail to see how companies like this keep going, or why they don't listen to employee suggestions about a way they could get more business, since their sole focus seems to be on selling, selling, selling. Boggles the mind.
