So apparently I'm doing Yuletide for the first time this year. Woo!

Stuff I like: Gen, male slash, femslash, het, kink, vanilla, long stories, short stories... It's all good! Speaking in broad terms, I tend to enjoy character-driven stuff about relationships, whether that means romance, sex, friendship, family, rivalry, or whatever. I especially like tricky, hard-to-pin-down relationships where a lot goes unsaid; I'd rather see how a character says "I love you" with their actions than in words. For me, plots are optional and exist mostly as an excuse to find out what the characters will do. I'm often drawn to characters who aren't the main focus in canon -- I like to see a perspective I haven't seen before.

But if that all sounds daunting, bear in mind that what I really want is for you to write a story you'll enjoy, rather than knock yourself out trying to write way outside your comfort zone. You picked (at least) one of the fandoms I requested, so just write something that shows why you like it, and I will be happy. Use my suggestions if they're helpful to you, but if they're not, don't.

Stuff I don't like: Violence/gore/blood/torture/gross-out. Though I'm cool with a dark or serious story, I don't get a kick out of making characters suffer just for the sake of it. Humor is fine but I don't really like crackfic or parodies. I am pretty sensitive about unquestioned homophobia or transphobia, even if appropriate to the character or time period; it still makes me cringe and that wouldn't be much fun in a gift fic. Particularly, I get upset if I read something that plays transgender people or cross-dressing for a laugh.

Also, I don't like to read about kissing. No real reason, just one of those things.

(I put my comments on specific fandoms in the sign-up form, but I'll repeat them here just because.)

Hainish Cycle: Though I've requested characters from The Dispossessed, I would be equally pleased to read something that is based on the book but doesn't use those characters, or something based on The Left Hand of Darkness. For either book, canon characters or characters you've made up that fit the setting are both fine; it's the worlds and cultures that interest me. I just want to visit them again in any way you choose.

Hark! A Vagrant: I'm putting Mystery Solving Teens here, but if you have another brilliant idea, feel free to surprise me. I'm a big fan of this comic in general.

(In the event that you were matched with me for a different fandom but get very stuck, you can consume the Mystery Solving Teens canon in about 5 minutes. Go here and scroll down to "teens". Those six comics are it.)

Jeeves & Wooster: It would be very cool to see something focusing on one or more of the female characters. I love Aunt Dahlia and I don't think I've ever seen anything written about her, but if you have an idea for something with another canon female character that would also be welcome. (If it matters, Brenda Bruce is the Dahlia in my head.) I like both the TV series and the books, so don't feel limited to one or the other. I'm not opposed to J/W slash being included, but I like it better when it's on the fun side rather than angsty pining. Generally staying within the light-hearted tone of the canon would be preferred.

Darkwing Duck: If possible, I would really enjoy something that touches on DW's relationship with Gosalyn, which was my favorite thing about the show. I know she's not on the nominated character list, but it would rock my world if you wrote something where she has a significant role, or is at least included. Must confess I'm not a big Launchpad fan (not that he can't be in it, but rather not focus on him), but anyone else is good. Also, for this fandom I'd prefer any sex kept offscreen, and nothing sexual implied with underage characters. I'm not normally sensitive about this, but for this show I think I'd have an unpleasant "oh god my childhood" reaction.

ETA: Oh, AND! I grew up in the Bay Area, and it always seemed clear to me that St. Canard was a sort of duck-universe version of San Francisco. Come on, the bay? The bridge? I love that, and if you were able to acknowledge it in some way, I'd probably be beside myself with happiness.

I hope none of that sounds like I'm overly picky, because I'm really not. I chose these fandoms because I was pretty confident I'd be interested to read anything related to them. Have fun, don't stress out. Thank you for writing for me.
