1. In all your fics, which characterization are you the most pleased with, and why?

I want to say the oilien, because of the way the story turns this inhuman monster into a fallible, feeling, even sympathetic character. But that's kind of a cop-out, considering that there was no canon characterization I had to match up to.

So I guess I'd pick Krycek in Void Sale, because I had a clearly defined character to work with, and I think I nailed it. He's ruthless and intimidating, yet eerily tender at times, in a way that I think stays true to what we see on-screen. Looking back over the story, there are very few missteps.

2. You're a Californian, right? What are the aspects about living in California that you like the best and the least?

I love California. I don't have any real loyalty to my country, but to my state-- hell yes. I love its physical beauty, from the redwoods to the desert, and most of all the ocean. When I get too far inland, I start to feel claustrophobic, and the Atlantic just isn't the same. I love the history. I love that Emperor Norton is a local hero. I love that there are places I can go out on a date with another guy and not get stared at. I even love driving down Highway 5 when it's a hundred degrees outside.

The thing I love the most is the freedom, I guess.

The thing I like the least is the politics. Not the political views themselves, which I (mostly) agree with, but the irritating smugness with which they're held and exposited. I think it's stupid to dismiss everyone who disagrees with you as a contemptible moron from the backwaters. Not all Californians do that, of course, but I come across it too often for my taste.

3. If you were to use a piece of classical music as a starting point for a fic, which piece would it be and which characters would it be for?

It's funny you ask this, because just recently I was listening to Ravel's Le tombeau de Couperin, and thinking that some of the movements reminded me of HP characters. This is probably not something I ever would have confessed on my own, but since you asked... *g* First I thought that the third movement, the Forlane, reminded me of a young Remus Lupin. It's quietly playful and quirky, but has an undercurrent of tiredness and ache that struck me as Remus all over. The movement that follows, the Rigaudon, starts off like a belly laugh, almost obnoxious in contrast to the Forlane, but cuts off abruptly to a damped-down stretch in the middle. That's Sirius. Then I got the idea to write a fic that attached each movement to a character in their school days -- sort of a classical songfic. The mood-setting Prélude, swift and clear, would be James. The raging final Toccata (which echoes some phrases from the Prélude, to very different effect) would be Snape. Then I couldn't decide on characters for the Fugue and Menuet. Peter and Lily are the obvious choices, but neither connected immediately with either of those pieces.

Le tombeau de Couperin was composed in tribute to six of Ravel's friends who'd died in the war, I believe, so it's not surprising that the movements are so full of distinct personality.

4. What's your comfort food of choice?

Ever since my doctor told me I couldn't have it, it's been orange juice. I used to drink it constantly, but it turned out it was bad for my stomach. So now that it's become a rare treat, I only indulge in it when I want to feel better.

5. If you were to be locked up for an eternity of Hell with two X-files or HP characters, which do you think would be the most likely to drive you around the bend? *g*

Though I like him as a character, I think CSM would be incredibly annoying to actually spend time with. Those cryptic little non sequiturs would get old fast. For HP, I might say Trelawney... and for much the same reason.

Cool questions, Spica. I'll have some for you soon, as well as my answer to your original question #1.
