Here's a sketch that turned into something rather nice. I think my ability to draw entirely from imagination has improved considerably. Unfortunately, the scan doesn't do this drawing justice -- pencil scans horribly, and reduces worse.

Incidentally, I've discovered that one of my co-workers is also a big Harry Potter fan. This is very cool, since it gives me somebody to talk to, and it's the first time I've met another HP fan in real life who's anywhere close to my own age. :)

That's wonderful! I love the flow of Dumbledore's robes, and Snape's position...that's great!

Thanks. Say, you're a pencil-artist too... Got any tricks for making the scanning process less painful? I've never found a good technique for making image files of pencil drawings turn out nicely.

Oh, Eo, this is just fantastic! I really like the way Dumbledore looks, all imposing and powerful, and then you get to his face and he's wise and forgiving. Snape's supplication is well done, too.

Thanks. It was fun to do. Got me thinking about Snape's relationship with Dumbledore too.

And by the way, that icon? Is the cutest thing ever.

Hmm. Not really, but I sympathise. Really, I fiddle with the preset filters and with applying filters later until I have it the best I can, but it isn't an exact science. I guess one thing (you do this anyway, I suppose) is to scan in full colour, even if it's a black/gray pencil on white paper, and try a couple of extra white sheets behind for extra contrast if the paper isn't heavy-weight. But my method is best summed up as "fumble til you get it right.'
