is this thing on?
Jan. 13th, 2012 02:12 pmGonna see if I can just crosspost everything to both platforms from now on. For reasons that probably only make sense to me, I'm not importing my LJ into my DW, but I will try to fix my respective flists so that no one is being locked out of any posts who shouldn't be.
Also, a question: Long ago there existed a thing you could use to download the entirety of your LJ and store it offline. Can you still do that? And what am I supposed to do, again, to re-show comments from deleted LJs?
eta: Wait, how do you do the thing where your DW post has a footer saying you've crossposted to such-and-such a place?
eta2: Oh, I see, it just does it after a minute.

Date: 2012-01-13 10:09 pm (UTC)I've not imported my LJ to DW, either. In my case it was because people seemed unhappy with their comments being reproduced wholesale on another blogging site, and I can sort of understand that, so I just uploaded my fics there. (There just didn't seem to be any point in importing only the entries without the comments, to me.) But I'm meaning to start crossposting, allowing comments both places, like you. I do like DW as a journaling site; it's got a nice positive vibe and they have some very neat features (expanding cut tags is awesome).

Date: 2012-01-13 10:34 pm (UTC)It doesn't bother me when people import my comments onto DW or wherever, but I can see how it could bother people. When you say something, it exists in a certain context, and I think it's understandable to hope it will remain in that context and not be brought elsewhere.
For me, I just have a strong and stubborn sense of things having happened *here*, and it doesn't appeal to me to bring them somewhere else after the fact. Posting things two places now is fine, but old posts were posted here and I don't want to change that.

Date: 2012-01-13 10:47 pm (UTC)I never thought of it exactly like that, but that definitely resonates for me, too. Maybe it would be different if everyone I know on LJ had actually moved to DW, but I think it would feel pointless and a bit sad almost, to have the conversations archived a place where the people are not.
