From
bethbethbeth and others.
First TV show I had self-insertion fantasies about:
I'm sorry, what kind of insertion fantasies? That doesn't seem physically poss-- Oh. Oh, I see.
My mind doesn't really work that way. In my childhood I may have imagined a Mary Sue or two, but they weren't me. I actually think my unwillingness to put myself into stories and fantasies has at times been pathological (I don't deserve to be a part of this, I must make myself invisible) but I'll save that discussion for my therapist!
First fandom in which I interacted (online and in person) with other fans:
X-Files. Both online and in person; I was in a group of friends that had XF-watching parties every week, which I think is pretty fannish! And one of those friends told me that you could go on the internet and talk to other people who liked the same shows you liked, so there you are.
Pairing in the first slash fanfiction I read:
It was either Picard/Q (
AlaraJRogers! classic stuff!) or possibly Mulder/Krycek (torch! also classic).
I want to ask why there's no question about the first het fic I read, but I don't think I remember it anyway. It was probably MSR (which is what we called Mulder/Scully in those days, let me get an onion to put on my belt here) despite my staunch noromo status. Or maybe that genderswitch female!Picard/Q, though I suppose tomes could be written about whether that's het or slash, and whether Q has a gender anyway, and what that even means.
First RPS/RPF I read:
Not sure, I've never been much of an RPF reader. I don't think RPF is bad, but in the early days XF was very uptight about it and it was forbidden from most of the main venues, so that probably affected my attitude towards it. Also (internet Old Person alert), back on alt.music.marilyn-manson there was this person who used to post poorly written, poorly spelled Manson/Twiggy fic, to which everyone else's response was a resounding Not Sure If Serious. So if you count that, then maybe that.
First fanfiction I read that made me think, YES, this is exactly the kind of fanfiction I'd like to write:
That's easy. All of
3jane's fic. All of it. When I first got started I was pretty intentionally emulating her style.
Pairing in the first fanfiction I wrote:
And what if the first fic I wrote was gen, huh? What then?! I'm pretty sure the first fic I wrote was a Back to the Future story about Jennifer. Jennifer! Even at the age of nine-or-so, I was writing about background characters nobody cares about. :|
The first fic I shared with other people (IRL) was, I think, a Voyager AU about Tom Paris losing his marbles after Tuvok failed to clear him of the murder charge in Ex Post Facto. Weird! I was 12 by then.
As for the first fic I posted, it was Krycek/Marita. I had just turned 20. (Gettin' ready to turn 30 now, but who's counting?)
First OTP:
Does this mean a literal OTP like I can't see these characters with anyone else, or just a pairing I was enthusiastic about? If it's the former, I've never had one; I am always open to a good story, regardless of pairing. If it's the latter, then probably Krycek/Marita.
First RPS/F OTP:
Never had one.
First fannish friend I met in person:
This is confusing to think about because I've had so many RL friends who later became fandom friends, and non-fandom online friends that I've met.
eponis might have been the first online fandom friend I met IRL. I also met
vaznetti at some point, possibly earlier than that, but it was more because we had a RL friend in common than because we were specifically trying to meet up.
First character I formally roleplayed:
In fandom, none.
