Tally ho! (or, the kink count)

I was curious to see what kinks were requested most often in this year's pornish_pixies Fantasy Fest, so I went through both pages and tallied them up.

There are some quirks to the list, of course. In many cases I had to try to gauge 'voter intent'. When a requestor said "coersion" I ticked dub-con, and when they said "rape" I ticked non-con, but people can argue over the precise meanings of these terms all day. I didn't always add a tally to chan when an underage participant was requested -- only when the requestor actually said "chan" or it seemed that the character's youth was important. I did tick incest when cousins were paired, though I know many non-Americans don't consider that incest at all.

I tried to distinguish D/s from any variety of non-con, but often it was hard to tell what the requestor was really asking for. In general, where they said dominance rather than force, submission rather than slavery, BDSM, giving orders, taking charge, consensual bondage, Dom![character], Sub![character]... that all went into D/s. It's probably still too much of a catchall, but there was a lot of it any way you count.

I didn't consider threesomes to be a kink for the list, though now I wish I'd counted how often they were asked for -- it was a lot. I also didn't count how often teacher/student pairings were requested. In retrospect, I probably should have broken up the voyeurism/discovery/public sex category into more specific categories, and maybe some other quibbly things like distinguishing between werewolf sex, animagus sex, and sentient nonhuman sex rather than just grouping them all as bestiality. (I don't think anyone asked for sex with a non-magical animal.) I also don't have categories for a few really vague things like "romance", which was mentioned a couple of times, and "darkfic" or "angst", both of which got lots of mentions.

I had never heard of hair-pulling as a fetish until now.

I don't think anyone specifically said "paddling", though if they did I might have grouped it with whipping/caning(/flogging/cropping). When people say spanking in this fandom they seem to usually mean by hand.

I think when people say "coming untouched" they mean something the characters try to make happen intentionally... or, heck, maybe not, what do I know. Heh, there are enough fics where male characters have the mysterious ability to get 'instantly hard again' that it might not matter. (I saw a fic that had that the other day, and... no. Just no. Not unless it's literally magic.)

pornish_pixies is equally open to boyslash and girlslash, but boyslash predominates. My impression is that there were more M/M/F and M/F/F threesomes than F/F or F/F/F, but I couldn't back that up without going through the whole thing again. Which... nah.

I think I might be a perpetrator of the "instant recovery". Which I made sure to correct because it is plain lazy. However, there was a RL life guy I know who could every now and then come once and stay hard for round two immediately. I thought I were in a fic when it first happened.

I first heard about that "coming untouched" thing from gay_sex_tips some guys there seemed to like causing it as tops but bottoms were divided, some liked it, some really didn't, I remember one guy said it felt like aliens taking over his body.

I'm with you on the medical thing, too. There are so many possibilities! *smacks down plot bunny* Maybe it's because in HP the medical thing isn't quite as intimate as in regular life--it seems to be more wave a wand, drink a potion, than anything really hands-on.

I think you're right. I've written medical kink in HP, and it was very hard to make it hands-on; it only worked because it was Snape with a goal of humiliation, and he chose not to use magical methods. We haven't seen many injuries or illnesses in canon that can't be cured quickly and easily, and even the ones that are difficult don't seem to involve much physical contact -- like the basilisk victims in CoS.

In fact wizards seem to react with horror at the 'hands-on' nature of muggle medicine, as we see with Arthur's stitches. It just feels like wizards should reach for a magical solution, and if there isn't one... they try more magic or give up. Which is a shame because... medical kink!

I'd like to know what pegging is too... it seems to me I know this, but all I can think of now is cribbage. And pirates. And pirates playing cribbage.
