August is turning into a great month for fandom. Maybe everyone's over the initial new-canon shock and is ready to produce again.

By the way, I'm not cutting or labeling HBP spoilers anymore, so... yeah. Embrace the canon! Live it! Love it! Manipulate it to suit your nefarious purposes!

Things That Could Be Crackfic, But Aren't.

June Wants (G) by [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1
This isn't an HP story. This a story about Disney ducks. WAIT COME BACK. This is the very epitome of what good fan fiction should be -- it's art, and it's commentary, and it couldn't possibly be written about any other characters. Try it, I swear you'll like it.

A Carefully Crafted Letter (NC-17, Filch + Macnair + Ron) by [livejournal.com profile] florahart
Okay, so this is a little closer to the crackfic end, but I found it much more charming than brain-breaking. Not all that far from how I see Filch in canon, really! Funny as hell, too.

Pairings I Never Thought I'd Love.

The Secret-Keeper (NC-17, Snape/Hermione) by [livejournal.com profile] switchknife (fic) and [livejournal.com profile] lizardspots (art) [Not worksafe!]
At times I've called Snape/Hermione my least favorite fandom pairing, which is because I usually hate the way it's written -- as a romance. This is not a romance, not at all. It's blackmail and manipulation and abuse, and it's relentless -- glorious -- in its careful realism. If all Snape/Hermione were like this, I'd read and read and read.

Felix's Helping Hand (NC-17, Harry/Draco) by [livejournal.com profile] _hannelore
Before HBP, H/D held no interest for me, but now there's starting to be this wave of... I don't know, nouveau H/D that really delves into all the great material the book provides. Hannelore sinks her teeth into it here, perfectly capturing the hateful place Harry's arrived at by the end of HBP. Draco's voice, too, is spot-on -- she lets him be just as wretched as he should be, in both senses of the word. This isn't your mother's Harry/Draco.

Dogdays drabbles [one two three four six seven fourteen] (R and below, Remus/Sirius) by [livejournal.com profile] imochan
Imochan -- ah. What can be said? These are ficlets from the [livejournal.com profile] dogdaysofsummer challenge, which I haven't been following except for her entries. I never think I like R/S until her words draw me in and leave me breathless. I sometimes find myself comparing her to [livejournal.com profile] nopejr, who has a similar gift for compressing mindstopping prose into a very small space, but while Nope's small stories feel carefully crafted, Imochan's give the impression of wild effortlessness. (Not that I'm praising one style over the other -- I love both.)

Phew. That was a lot of fanboying. If you read and like any of these stories, don't forget to let the authors know!

And thank you for heeding my madly flailing attempts to get people to read it. :D

Hey...I'm an old hand at Disney fandom. I still read Treasure Planet fanfic and I grew up loving the Donald Duck/Uncle Scrooge comics by Carl Barks and films like "The Rescuers." The Ducks are real people to me. :=)

Ah, that's right... The Barks characters were definitely part of my childhood growing up, which I'm sure is partly why Amy's fic filled me with such delight.

You're so right. Even though August has sucked for RL, it's certainly been exciting for fandom! Maybe RL will get a clue. ;)

*sheepish thanks for the rec!* Now I want an icon that says "not your momma's H/D." :D

Ahee!

And guess what? I've just realized you can call my work for free. If you go to the web site, there's an 800 number for the "order department", which really isn't an order department anymore. You can just ask them to page me.

Omg, your icon. *saves*

Hermione/Snape usually nauseates me, but [livejournal.com profile] coldcoffeeeyes writes a great trilogy that's mainly H/S that I absolutely love.

How dare you? I'll have you know my mother's H/D is erotic and in-character! >:(

Great thing about fandom? I can't say for sure if you're joking. My mom was a slasher from way back!

ST:TOS, Sherlock Holmes, and X-Files, approximately in that order. A reader, not a writer, I should say.

It's you who's too good to us, providing all this tasty fic to nibble.

Did you also have a Finding Nemo fic, or was that someone else?

Hahaha, weirdly enough, just before I saw this post I was randomly recalling (as you do) that one time you recced South Park fic and then wrote NO DON'T SCROLL DOWN or something and I was amused by your capsed pleading for us all to not flee from teh cartoonfic. And lo, this post. *amused*
