Happy birthday to
tekalynn! I would say more, but I don't think anything I could contribute could possibly equal the level of birthday-related ph33r incited by this.
Some time ago, I started keeping a list of URLs of Peter-centric fic, just because I was curious how much there actually was. The list runs to about forty stories, which is about what I would have expected, given the mind-boggling hugeness of this fandom on the one hand, and the near-universal Peter-hatred on the other. Most of these stories are (perhaps overly) sympathetic -- a few are very harsh. Most of them are gen -- a few are sexy. Most of them are varying degrees of mediocre -- a few are sublime.
Since I've already done most of the work entailed, I'd like to put up the list as a reference for other fans, since a comprehensive list doesn't seem to exist elsewhere -- and, well, it'll give me a chance to plug the stories I like. I think I've already hit the primary places where Peter fic can be found, but if a story, archive, or rec site comes to mind, please do leave a comment. There's a fair amount of MWPP fic that includes Peter as a secondary character (if he's included at all -- sigh), but I'm going to limit myself to stories where he's a primary character. Otherwise, what with the current post-OotP fad for MWPP fic, the project will quickly get out of hand.
So far, this one has emerged as a favorite:
"The glory of the hummingbird" by L.C. (PG-13, Peter/Remus)
L.C. just *gets* what Peter is about -- his awkwardness, his naivete, and his need for things he can't understand. In canon, young Peter is oddly out of sync with his friends, and this story nails that down and dissects it with precision and subtlety. The characterization of Remus is also quite good -- as in canon, he clearly sees himself as a nice guy, but note how he uses Peter without even realizing it, smiling serenely all the while. The quality of the writing, too, is exceptional. Not to be missed.
