Thursday

When you registered for this con there was a space to put what web site you were affiliated with, so naturally I put pornish_pixies. Little did I know they planned to put this on the con badges, so I got to be "Pauraque (Pornish Pixies)" the entire weekend, which elicited a lot of strange reactions and behavior, much of it negative. Oops. The woman who checked me in and found my badge in the pile gave me the first dirty look and off-base comment of the con, but after that I stopped counting.

Anyway, the first day I was really tired because I had to catch my plane at 4am. I remember gmth and titti waking me up after I fell asleep in the hotel lobby, and then meeting some people in the bar (including aubrem, whom I had met before and continues to be mega awesome ♥), and then the food being terrible at the welcoming feast.

Friday

I slept until 2pm, so no Formal Programming for me! I tried to look at the water Quidditch, but instead ended up talking to oulangi, swtalmnd, and alafairnadia for a really long time. Then the SnapeCast person came up and asked us all what our Theory of Snape was, and oulangi sounded way smarter than me.

I think this was also the day of the Snarry meetup in the bar, which was fun. Whoever organized it put a lot of effort into having a good meetup space and nice door prizes, but I didn't catch who it was. Tell me if you know, because that person rocked.

Saturday

The day of doing actual convention things. Woke up early so I could go to the Snape/Draco panel, which was quite enjoyable. femmequixotic, titti, goseaward, and geoviki did a great job. The only thing that sucked was that this was one of just three slash-related programs at the whole con (the other two being the Slash vs Het panel and the femslash roundtable), and the ONLY pairing-specific slash program, which makes no sense any way you slice it.

Then everyone was going to logospilgrim's presentation on Snape and Dumbledore, so I went too. The place was packed -- I think everyone was dying to hear what she would say, since obviously she is a little bit unusual. And you know what? Her presentation was AWESOME. Her thesis was basically the thing of Dumbledore being more of a God figure than a psychologically realistic character, specifically in relation to Snape's spiritual development, which we've all heard before, but her explication was elegant, thorough, and deeply felt. She was an excellent speaker, it was totally a highlight of the con.

I stayed for the presentation after that, which was some academic type talking about the "lost prince" archetype (e.g. King Arthur) as it relates to Harry and Snape. Which is a perfectly good topic, but unfortunately the speaker was not very good at all. Her essay didn't make much sense, and she really shouldn't have taken questions, because she couldn't answer them coherently.

Then it was on to the crackfic panel, which got crammed into a room that was much too small for it, and was standing room only. I had to cut out early because it was just way too crowded, but I did get to hear geoviki read from Never Mind The Bollocks, It's Draco/Harry, which was if possible even funnier when read by the author, and had everyone in tears of laughter.

After that I went out to the pool, where the Ron slash meetup was held. The meetup was actually IN the pool, since it was about 115 degrees, so that made sense. I went to pretty much every character/pairing meetup that I knew about, since I don't have an OTP, so I probably looked like a bit of an idiot, but that's okay.

Sunday

We went to the post-mortem, which was totally silly. No matter what anyone said to the convention organizers, it Wasn't Their Fault. Transportation was disorganized? We didn't do that part. Panels were scheduled all wrong? That was somehow the presenters' fault. Presentations were the same as at The Witching Hour? Not their fault. Even though they approved the presentations.

These were people who could not accept criticism. Some guy got up and said he didn't like the specialty cocktails, and they couldn't even accept that -- they blamed it on the bartenders. It was total nonsense, and did not make me eager to go to another con organized by them.

Then gmth kicked me out of her room because I kept hosting my orgies there (or maybe she was just going home, I didn't quite catch the details), so I moved in with bethbethbeth, ze_dragon, femmequixotic, and goseaward, whose room was also filled with such delightful people as titti, elanor_isolda, chazpure, odogoddess, emmagrant01, and scarah2 at various times. And we proceeded to have an orgy. An orgy OF BADFIC. Highlight. Of. Con. I don't know if I've ever laughed so hard. Especially not while sober.

And scarah2 drew crack art. I snagged Lockhart/Slughorn, which is my new OTP.



My scanner is all broken and wobbly. :( I wonder who did that while I was gone...

I also met many, many other people, whom I really wish I'd had more time to talk to, and more that I heard were there but never actually saw. I don't have any plans to go to future HP cons, so... oh well. From now on, everyone has to come to me.


I believe now I have to write birthday deathfic for the snape100 challenge, as well as Slughorn smut that isn't non-con. bethbethbeth is forcing me, but I secretly enjoy it. And that's hot.

No shit? How incredibly rude! If I hadn't known about the site/comm I would've thought it was some saucy but fun site... and even if your badge had been HardCore XXXPotter there's certainly no reason for staff to be rude -_-

Sounds like you had a good time otherwise. I wish I could afford to go to HP conventions, or that someone arranged more academic cons on a topic I like here. It sounds awesome
