The clip frame sadly did not survive the USPS's manhandling... but the drawing did! And I can get a new frame! And it's lovely and yay!

I need a new driver for my scanner now.

*muchas smooches*

I've been cooking. I want to eat better things. Don't worry, it's not some misguided "diet", I just don't like the gross junk food I eat because I have no time. Super work crunch time is over now, so I've been buying actual ingredients from the store and putting them together.

I can follow a recipe and make it come out well, but usually I don't unless it's baking (which of course is a more exact science). My version is more like... garlic and cooking oil in a pan. Um, mushrooms. Broccoli! Spinach! Uh almonds? Sesame seeds wat. Peanut sauce. Okay it looks done.

I wouldn't say these concoctions come out memorable, but they're edible, and I'm only cooking for myself since my brother won't eat anything that doesn't arrive in a cardboard box. And I'm pretty sure it's better than the standard gamer diet (hot pockets + mountain dew).

In other news, my cat has discovered that garlic is like unto catnip for her. She licked the plate it was on, and is now racing around with crackhead eyes scent-marking everything.

Be careful with cats and alliums. Not good for their livers, can cause blood clotting failure IIRC. Licking a garlicky plate ought to be safe, but don't let her eat chives or onion or even little bits of garlic.

Oh, I wouldn't let her eat it. I didn't know it was particularly bad, but I don't leave food unattended in general because she'll try to eat almost anything and I'm sure some of it wouldn't agree.

I just learned it recently! Luckily, my old gentleman doesn't like human food at ALL; if you offer him SHRIMP he'll just rub his face on it.

Before I taught my brother not to leave food out, she had some very adventurous culinary times. She once ate a whole bowl of chocolate ice cream and most of a stick of butter. She also eats non-foods such as rubber bands and ribbons if you let her.

Do you have a freezer, or even much space in your fridge? I like to cook a big pot of curry, divide it into microwaveable bowls and then eat it for the next three days, as the flavour gets better and better. I have to drive to another town (60km away) to buy good quality (not even organic) vegetables, so I can only do that once a week, hence big cook-ups work well for me! It also means that when I get home from work, all I have to do is put on the rice cooker.

Oh dear, I feel lucky now. I live within walking distance of organic vegetables. There's also a farmer's market close by, but they always have it when I'm at work.

Well, we do have several kinds of organic (and delicious) cheese, ice cream, honey, olive oil, olives, strawberries and preserves, plus a vineyard and a whiskey and vodka distillery, and an excellent butcher. It's only the fruit and veg that's a let-down - only the small and crappy supermarket (actually about mini-mart size) sells it, and my vegie garden is not very productive yet, except for onions! My town is just 800 people, though, so really it's pretty good for its size!

Damn, I haven't had problems before -- I can just imagine you, opening an envelope full of broken glass! I'm glad that at the very least the drawing arrived okay, and that you like it. A magnet on the fridge is a good home for now :).

As a nearly irrelevant side note, I find that I'm good at cooking healthy meals, but meet my downfall when it comes to snacks -- so I make trail mixes, de-twig grapes in batches and bake my own health bars for whenever (simplest thing in the world). It's easier to put in the effort to cook well when you've been eating well all day long.
