PoA babble :: the goodness that is Bow
Jul. 7th, 2004 06:00 pmMmm. Fell asleep on my lunch break. Very sleepy now.
Saw PoA for the third time last night with a mundane friend -- though really, I think if I had the guts to tell her about fandom, she'd be all over it. She cried at the end, and thinks "there's something going on between Lupin and Black". Indubitably.
The more I see the movie, the more I like it. I like how Cuarón so often treats it as ordinary -- an ordinary suspenseful movie. Magical realism. Very Mexican.
Ron has a childlike drawing of Scabbers on the wall near his bed. I noticed it at "you tell those spiders". It's after Scabbers disappears that Ron starts sleeping badly. ♥
So, when criminals are Kissed, assuming they don't become Dementors themselves... what does the Ministry do with them? I mean, is there a room in Azkaban somewhere filled with soulless husks of wizards who are nothing but the sum of their worst experiences and just sort of sit there?
chresimos and I were talking however many days ago that was, and she asked if I thought Peter ever changed back to being human during those twelve years, even briefly. I don't think he did, simply because he's so very unwilling to change back, even when he's trying to get the hell away from Hogwarts. I mean, how long was he just going to sit there in an empty milk jug in Hagrid's hut, no food or water, knowing Sirius could turn up at any time?
You all know
bowdlerized is a brilliant writer, right? I somehow feel like she's under-appreciated. Her stuff's all good, but my particular favorites:
-I don't generally like poetry, but I love "fat again" (PG, Sirius/Remus).
"oh the hairy newness of it! limbs & limbs of glorious pressureweight"
-"Parting" (PG) tackles basically the same subject matter I did in 'Microcosmos', and in a similar style, but Bow really did a much better job of it. It's more canon, more raw -- angrier, aching. I hope Bow will take it in the spirit intended when I say I wish I'd written this!
"Late some nights, Remus woke from his shallow sleep to feel it: a caged, fretful energy that hovered over the half-empty bed, stuck to the peeling walls, settled uneasily into the gaps between the floorboards. Oh, Sirius, he thought, because really, whom else could it have belonged to?"
Go read now. And don't forget to feed the Bow.
