_hannelore (jolly = my stomach hurt from laughing) and my phone died with unusual suddenness. Not like it was gently prodding me that it was about to die, actually shut itself off.
Luckily we were both looking at our guild web site, because we were attempting to rate our guildmates in order of how much sexual experience we believed they'd had. (You see where the stomach hurting comes in.) So we both got on the site's live chat and continued being jolly.
Then after a bit, the site shut down because the host was doing "unscheduled maintenance". No problem, I would just call her on my land line, oh wait I decided not to pay the land line because I almost never use it, and now they want money before I can use the phone.
So I made this post and waited a few minutes, and then became so agitated that I ran out into the rain to call her on the pay phone at the store by my house, but the pay phone wanted to charge me five dollars to call long distance and I only had two dollars in quarters.
When I got back she had logged on or I probably would have had a fit, I don't know. I'm so devoted to my phone that I apparently just can't handle it when I'm not able to call people, the helplessness is overwhelming.
Then today the Newsworthy California Rainstorm flooded my street and knocked out my power at 8am, and it didn't come back on until 5pm. During this time I had no way to call the PG&E number to find out when the power would come back, because apparently to access my account information I needed to CALL FROM MY LAND LINE.
If it wasn't going to come back today, I actually was considering going to my dad's house to try to log into WoW from there since I have a raid, and when I called the guild leader to tell him my power was out, he was all "PLEASE BE ABLE TO COME BECAUSE WE NEED YOU DESPERATELY" or words to that effect. (By the way: calling someone and saying "Hi, this is [my WoW character's name]" does not seem strange to me.) But my dad's power was going on and off anyway as it turned out, so that probably wouldn't have done anything. My brother happened to be over at my dad's house anyway, so they were going to the movies.
I wrote by candlelight, and practised the piano by candlelight, and then I got bored with both of those things and sort of pouted in the dark, and then the power came back.
During the times of darkness, my refrigerator peed on the floor, and so did my cat. And a rain-related ant trail developed. My street and yard also are flooded still.
BUT I HAVE LIGHT AND HEAT AND CAN COME TO THE RAID.
ETA: My internet keeps disconnecting. I think I'm going to die.
