[livejournal.com profile] eponis wrote me a great young!Tom ficlet [G]. The prompt was Tom Riddle and the word key.

And [livejournal.com profile] chresimos posted a neat drabble [G], plus the unrelated but nonetheless l337 stick figure fan art that I prodded her to share with the world. I exhort you all to look at it. Ha, GoF. What humor you provide.

Speaking of which, I'm trying to put together posts on some of the mad and inexplicable things that take place in GoF, and I was wondering if anyone has links to good discussions or essays on Barty Crouch Jr? I've got this one, but more would be excellent.

After too many weeks of [livejournal.com profile] chresimos having to remind me of basic facts about the book, I'm once again attempting to read GoF in its entirety, which I haven't succeeded at doing since I first read it. I plowed through about a third this evening, during the boring parts of the Dem convention coverage. Every time I try to read it, I get to this point, and despair of going on, since they aren't even at school yet. But I must persevere!

Yeah. GoF, not my favorite of the books.

[EDIT: None of the usual insomniac suspects are on AIM. What's that about?]

Same site, different series of posts--

C.R.A.B.C.U.S.T.A.R.D. is brilliant. Very much made me appreciate the Crouches as more than minor characters.

(and I'm oh so pleased I didn't have to go slogging through Yahoo archives for that.)

You've already been declared God, so all I can offer is my thanks.

Best of luck with GoF! I'm currently trying to re-read it myself - again it'll be the first full read-through since the original one if I succeed - and I don't even have boring bits of Democratic conventions to act as incentive.

Ah well. Will grit my teeth and persevere, though currently Harry hasn't even got to the Burrow. :-( There's some good bits in there, it's just that to my mind they get bogged down in the midst of all the padding, and it's the thought of all the padding that puts me off.

Perhaps we should institute a read-through for it at some point? I don't know about you, but I generally work best to deadlines.

I made it up to the weighing of the wands last night after I posted this, which is about halfway... hopefully, I'll be able to do the other half tonight or tomorrow. I *would* like to do a chapter-by-chapter re-read, but I'm trying to save it for when we're closer to the movie, so I'll probably do the other three first. CoS and PS/SS, I can knock over in a month each... it's OotP I'm worried about!

The only way I'm managing to get through GoF at the pace I'm going is that I'm trying to concentrate on Moody!Crouch, since I want to write fic about him.

I remember quite liking GoF the first time I read it, but I was trying to re-read it recently, and it's slow-going...

It sure is. I wasn't bothered by it on first reading, but when you already know what's going to happen... yipes. Such padding!

Hee! Thank you muchly!

Also, all I can do is second the essays of this Elkins person. Have been reading them and indeed the squees have been plenteous. Read them! Read them all! Crouches and Peter and the graveyard scene and! Eeeee! And on why Lupin was a suspect and...everything. So much cool.

(Poor little Crouch with the great insanity and the being kept under Imperius for so long and then having to inflict it on students and his freakish crazy powerz and...no wait...must only be obsessed with one horribly amoral character at a time...argh!)
