Dear Fandom,

=============

For those of you who don't know, JKR's got a new interview where she gives some fairly specific answers to fan questions of varying relevance (and possible Book 6 spoilers, so click with care). On the non-giving-things-away front, I really appreciated this:

"I am normally like this when I write a book. Usually when I am just over halfway I normally love it, but by the time I finish it I completely despise it and think it is worthless rubbish."

Heh, I can certainly relate.

Aside from that, I just want to point out one thing: JKR did not say that Harry will "survive Book 7", as briefly reported on HPANA (they seem to have fixed it now). What she said was that Harry will survive to Book 7, which I think you'll agree is not the same.

=============

The [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies Fantasy Fest seems to be going along swimmingly. Probably my favorite entry so far is [livejournal.com profile] mousapelli's 'Just Following Orders' [NC-17, Remus/Harry/Neville], a deadpan slash satire, equal parts smutty and sardonic. I wouldn't want to give away the best lines, but there are some big laughs here.

The writing of my own entry is going incredibly slowly, but at least it's going. When you spend half an hour on two sentences, you know you've had better days.

Also, I think I may have gone mad, because I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] merry_smutmas. Luck, be a lady tonight.....

LOL

I love the first comment. Finally, a cool head! *snuggles you*

I've never yet feared for Harry's life. I'm more the person who takes for granted that the main character will be in it until the last book. I'm fear for everyone else. I keep thinking "okay. . . Sirius is gone, who's gonna bite the dust next?"

I'm just paranoid that way. ^^;;

Yeah, I don't think anyone in their right mind was really expecting to lose Harry in Book 6. But this is definitely where it starts to get dicey for secondary characters... JKR's said flat-out that OotP was only the start of the deaths. And rightly so -- it's a war, after all.

In my opinion, Remus, Dumbledore, and any of the Weasleys besides Ron are possible candidates for a book-six demise. I don't think Snape, Peter, or the Trio are on the chopping block until Book 7, but we'll see.

I actually agree, but I don't think Remus is going to die until book 7 also, where he and Peter will have the final show down of sorts.

I also think it's going to be Ron or Hermione, or Ron and Hermione, against the Malfoys in book 7. *grins* That's been building for sometime I think.

I honestly think that Snape is going to survive the whole thing. I'm probably dead wrong, but one can hope.

Just butting in here, don't mind me...

I really, really hope you're right. I fear for Snape FAR more than I fear for Harry. I even had this horrible dream where she killed him off. I rolled my eyes at the Sirius fans for going into denial when he died, but I'm starting to think my brain would shut down too, were we to lose Snape. It's scary, damn it. :-(

LOL me too. I think I'll stop functioning for a couple days and cry my heart out. I didn't cry for Sirius (to tell the truth, I started crying during Dumbledore's speech to Harry, and when Albus cried at the end of it I broke apart.)

I hope so much that he snarks he way into a nice retirement! Please, ohpleaseohpleaseohplease!!

Book 6?

Hagrid. And a Dursley, or even two. Perhaps a teacher other than McG and Snape. Possibly a non-Ron Weasley, and Remus. (Remus might be taking Peter with him, though, don't you think?) But not Dumbledore. I'm guessing Dumbledore goes somewhere in the first half of Book 7.

Somebody, somewhere, is running a betting pool on this. And I want in.

I'm of the opinion that Peter will kill Remus, and Peter will die himself at a later time. I could certainly be wrong.

Didn't Molly have twin brothers with the initials F and G, who were killed?
*rubs palms together eagerly* Twins on the chopping block!

Heh :-) Thank you!! I glossed over JKR's one rather condescending comment in the interview to get to the giving-things-away bits, so I was somewhat taken aback at all the reactions I've been reading on LJ ever since.

I don't get the big reaction either. Let the woman have her opinions, what's it to us? All we can reasonably ask of an author is that she doesn't slap us with a cease-and-desist, and she has no intention of doing that, so, shrug.

I don't know about every single other person in the fandom (duh ;) but I wasn't so riled over her opinions of the characters, who are after all, hers, as the sexist implications about fans.

Well, I didn't think any of it was a big deal. So we differ. Fandom peace! :)

Dear Fandom,

*applauds*

Maybe it's just me, but I thought she was being rather tongue-in-cheek with a lot of her comments; just like her bit about how people shouldn't call Voldemort "Voldie".

Perhaps fandomers are so busy putting tongues in other places that they've forgotten they can go in cheeks. Hem, hem.

OMG so totally agree. *grins* Let the author have her fun. She lets us have ours for the most part! So she's confuzzled over us, weren't confuzzled over her!!
