slithering across the rainbow bridge

Early this morning I kept waking up thinking that I needed to put water in my snake's bowl. This was untrue, as I had just done so the previous day.
When I left for work I can't honestly say I looked at her terrarium. When I came home she was dead.
She was 15 years old, which is pretty venerable for a corn snake, so I believe it was old age... I'm not going to bother with a necropsy. I had a good vet for her who brought her back from some serious problems in the past, but she just didn't seem sick this time.
This was a pet I had since I was 11 (I'm now 26). So yeah. This sucks.

She was probably on her way out at that point. My experience is that we're often roused in this way when something like this is going on.
I remember walking up the hill one day, when I lived in SoCal, and coming across a dying rat on the path ahead of me (it seemed as if it had probably been poisoned.) I picked it up on a large leaf and set it in the shade of a tree and just sat there and talked quietly to it for a while. It could have been pure coincidence, of course, but I felt as if I'd come that way at that particular time to provide some small measure of peace or comfort or caring to the little guy.
My thoughts are with you.
