calling all DS9 fans :: drabble

I'm writing a TNG/DS9 crossover, and I'm much more of a TNG person than a DS9 person, so I need some help. Can anyone tell me what we know for sure about where Garak was and what he was doing before he came to Terok Nor? He was in the Obsidian Order working as an interrogator, and then he was exiled... why, exactly? I'm sure I've seen all the episodes, but it was an awfully long time ago.
