This is the first drawing I've done of Snape that looks remotely like my mental image of him, though it still isn't quite right... Practice, I guess. He's about seventeen here.
Wow, I'm so impressed. That's excellent! I like the strong clean outline of the profile and the way you've shaded out the eyes, and also the concentration in his expression. Have you aimed to recreate a young Alan Rickman? I think he looks very right for a young movie Snape, particularly the expression over the mouth.
Thanks! :) No, I didn't consciously go for a resemblance to Alan Rickman, though I see what you mean. Rickman is great in the movies, but he doesn't really match my image of Snape when I read the books - he's just too handsome, I think.
Have you seen J K Rowlings own sketches of the characters? Her Snape is very severe and frowny, but if anything he just reinforces my major impression of the character: that he reminds me of an English teacher who scared me shitless at eleven but who I thought was extremely cool at eighteen. Although I imagine that, while Harry will undoubtedly continue to discover both good and bad things about Snape that contribute to enlarge our understanding of his character, he's unlikely to end up with Snape as his favourite teacher, whatever transpires in the last three books.
I had seen the sketch of Snape somewhere, but the others are new to me... How fascinating. I like her drawing style; the pic of the Weasleys is particularly charming. On the list of character names, do we know what the middle column of symbols means? Or why some have their house circled?

Yes, that rings true.

I'm thinking Harry will probably end up respecting Snape to a certain extent, though liking him is probably out of the question. At some point it has to dawn on Harry that while Snape is constantly committing small wrongs, he does the right thing when it really COUNTS. Snape can verbally abuse Harry all day long, and then turn around and put himself in mortal danger to save the wretched kid's life. In Snape's mind, I don't think there's a conflict there. He's decided, on some level, that the small scale doesn't matter. Of course, you have to ask yourself what dozens of tiny little cruelties add up to in seven years....

I can point you at these pictures with a clear conscience, since I'm the person who did the vidcapping. :-)
