I'm not foolish enough to attempt a true word of the day (ie, every day), but I sometimes find myself deriving interesting words I want to share, so I'll be doing this from time to time.

Etymology

weí "pleasure" is a pictogram of a person holding up their arms. The animate-bringer derivation is an abstract ideogram.

Notes

This is a more general term than our "artist"; it can refer to anyone who brings enjoyment to the senses or the emotions, be they a visual artist, a poet, or a masseur.

In specifying the type of artist, one may mention either the materials they use or the sense they appeal to.

This construction is also found in the common idiom réong weée "cock artist". This could literally mean someone who gives good head, but more often means someone who is obsequious -- a kissass, a brown-noser, a yes-man.

Why would the literal meaning be specifically someone who gives good head, rather a more general, "Good in bed"-type meaning?

No particular reason; I suppose the primary meaning is idiomatic as well. Someone who's good in bed would be a "sex artist".
