We don't make this stuff up.

Two-thirds of the way through GoF. I think I'm gonna make it this time! A couple of random things:
When I've finished the book, I'm sure I'll have more to say, but I don't want to get ahead of myself.
Also, I've just realized how you can make a two hour movie out of GoF: Ditch the first two Tasks.
[EDIT: Oh, I wanted to say -- happy birthday, Neville!]
'Nice socks, Potter,' Moody growled as he passed, his magical eye staring through Harry's robes.Emphasis mine. I'm with you, Parvati. o_O
'Oh -- yeah, Dobby the house-elf knitted them for me,' said Harry, grinning.
'He is so creepy!' Parvati whispered, as Moody clunked away. 'I don't think that eye should be allowed!'
(GoF 365 UK paperback)
The ropes of weed tying the hostages to the statue were thick, slimy and very strong. For a fleeting second [Harry] thought of the knife Sirius had brought him for Christmas -- locked in his trunk in the castle a quarter of a mile away, no use to him whatsoever.Okay, WHAT is up with this? The knife, the mirror -- agh! JKR, what are you doing?

Dumbledore: Nothing that I've noticed.
Hooch: I caught him peeping through Potter's robes at the Yule Ball.
Dumbledore: You see, Minerva? Everything's perfectly fine.

Date: 2004-07-29 11:36 pm (UTC)*giggle* Am now tempted to write something where Moody's endlessly trying to hide his little queenish tendencies, and gives it up as a loss when Kingsley goes all alpha-male and pounces on him :-P

Date: 2004-07-29 11:45 pm (UTC)Seriously, though, a queen is like that guy on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, a boy (even if he's 60) who gets men to do for him like a Southern belle, drops handkerchiefs and sends them running and thinks he's in charge of the world. Queens are dramatic in a different way from Moody. It's an attitude, not a top/bottom thing. Mulciber is a queen but I wouldn't call him submissive. He doesn't need his favourite spell; he knows where all of Alastor's buttons and strings are (which is all the more remarkable since he can barely manage his own buttons and laces).
They don't have to dress up in drag either. Dylan would hate having to wear women's clothes.

Date: 2004-07-30 02:43 pm (UTC)They could combine aspects of the tasks into one event. Either that or ditch the Harry/Cho subplot, that certainly wouldn't raise any qualms from me...

Date: 2004-07-30 03:29 pm (UTC)I would have expected them to ditch Harry/Cho but they obviously aren't intending to as they've cast Cho. Which suggests that they are likely to keep the Yule Ball although I wouldn't if I was doing it in one movie. The tasks are more important than a dance.
*gives up trying to understand Steve Kloves mind*

Date: 2004-07-30 03:31 pm (UTC)Erk.. poor Sirius.. looking back on his life-after-Azkaban... it didn't help Harry very much. His purpose was just being a plot device to make Harry get upset over... >_<

Date: 2004-07-30 06:09 pm (UTC)Also, combined tasks? It would be like...Triwizard Deathmatch! Watch as our champions complete a series of events, each more strenuous than the last! See them swim! Fight dragons! Eat hippogriff intestines! Erm...
The poor plot of GoF is confusing and dragging enough.
and, also, can't you just imagine?
Voldemort: And then I went to the forests of Albania. And then I lurked in the pastures of Bulgaria. And THEN I ate a cheese sandwich...or was it bacon? Anyway, and THEN I read 'Exposition for Evil Overlords 101', and THEN...

Maybe...maybe he's meant to be a contrast to another "father figure" in Harry's life, someone who has always been there for him even if he doesn't realize it. *cough*Snape*cough*
J.K. did say that part of the reason Sirius had to die was so that another character could get closer to Harry...
