Hee - the Moody scene is on my shortlist of things I'd love to see in the movie, along with the bit of Snape, Filch and Moody all out in their pyjamas. A plea to the director: less Harry/Cho, more homoerotic subtext.

All the books have their moments, but I've been staggered at the amount of homoerotic and other sexual subtext in GoF. The Harry/Ron! The Harry/Cedric! The wand-polishing! The Moody!Crouch/EVERY MALE STUDENT!

...and I haven't even got to the part where Peter ties Harry up.

Also, we can't forget the Snape/Karkaroff - all that lovely tension, and the way arguing wtih him makes Snape want to hex the petting couples out of the rosebushes. And you know, the first time I read GoF, I was certain there was a nod to Bill Weasley being gay: Long hair, earring, urged by his mother to settle down, and the only male who doesn't seem affected by Fleur's charms. Then OotP came out and shattered my illusions.

There should be much with the Snape/Karkaroff, yes indeed. But I was slightly overwhelmed with the Harry/Ron in that scene. The way Snape's all "You het couples! Stop getting it on! *turns to Ron and Harry* And what are YOU two doing?"

Nomenclature issue: Alastor is not fem enough to be a queen. Alastor is a bear and a daddy and I'm quite sure he's a leatherman, but he's not a queen. When

Seriously, though, a queen is like that guy on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, a boy (even if he's 60) who gets men to do for him like a Southern belle, drops handkerchiefs and sends them running and thinks he's in charge of the world. Queens are dramatic in a different way from Moody. It's an attitude, not a top/bottom thing. Mulciber is a queen but I wouldn't call him submissive. He doesn't need his favourite spell; he knows where all of Alastor's buttons and strings are (which is all the more remarkable since he can barely manage his own buttons and laces).

They don't have to dress up in drag either. Dylan would hate having to wear women's clothes.

Yes, yes, I know Moody's much too butch to be a queen in the 'fabulous' sense - but in common parlance, the word is often idly used to denote any gay man. But if you'd prefer, next time I'll just stick to 'gentleman of the robe-lifting persuasion' :-P

I know what you mean - I spent too many of my formative years on Toronto's Church Street. I dig the lingo - I know my bears from my breeders, my chickens from my chasers - but 'queen' still seems fair game for me. And is even more amusing to use in the context of Moody, who's probably the last character any non-slasher would ever imagine to be gay :-P

Hee - you know, I can kind of see Moody as the type to bring flowers around to some recently fallen Auror's widow. But then again, I'd much rather see him rattling the bedframe with big buff Kingsley Shacklebolt. And of course the enjoyable thing about Moody is that he's unlikely to get a love interest in the books, so we can slash away to our heart's content.

Yeah, I know it's supposed to be important... I'm just getting increasingly puzzled by Sirius's role in Harry's life. Sirius never _helps_ him. He tries, but is randomly prevented. There's also a bit in GoF where Sirius is trying to give Harry advice on one of the tasks, and is cut off just as he's going to say it. It's just interesting, because Sirius is allegedly a father figure, but he's never given Harry any solid advice or tangible help.

I know that. But it would still be a pretty silly Tornament with only one task! Hardly a Tornament - more a short event!

I would have expected them to ditch Harry/Cho but they obviously aren't intending to as they've cast Cho. Which suggests that they are likely to keep the Yule Ball although I wouldn't if I was doing it in one movie. The tasks are more important than a dance.

I am not a shipper by any means, but I feel strangely compelled to point out that the H/Hrism in GoF is entirely composed of references to H/Hr being untrue and absurd (which I only mention because I just noticed it in the current re-read).
