I:

-got up before noon.
-bought a mop and some other things.
-cleared off the "dining room" table, on which no one ever dines; I use it only for painting and accumulating junk.
-found an unfinished Artistic Work and finished it.
-mopped the kitchen floor. I've never mopped anything before. (Wait, hasn't he lived without his parents for SHUT UP.)
-made the beginning of what I want to be a comprehensive list of things I need to ship to [livejournal.com profile] _hannelore and things I need to get rid of.
-realized I forgot to buy cat litter box liners, and bought them.
-attempted to buy a box in which to ship the first of my books to [livejournal.com profile] _hannelore (!!!) but found the UPS store is closed on Sundays.
-unclogged the kitchen sink.
-realized I forgot to buy lightbulbs.

eta: Ooh. I just realized that you have to pay to access the custom mood theme editor now. I have a mood theme I made years ago and passionately love, but I lost the password to the fotobukkit they're on. Is there some way I can weasel in and access the full chart of images via LJ?

I hadn't mopped the kitchen floor in eight years. To be fair, it had nasty 1970s carpet on it. After not being *able* to mop the floor, mopping is a joy!

Carpeting in the kitchen?! Was this normal in the 70s? o_O

Apparently it was, along with the bright orange benches I still have! I remember some houses with thick, permanently damp carpeting in the bathroom (I was born in 1974), but luckily the previous owners of my house didn't go that far.

Even to me, Guy Who Never Mopped The Floor, that is disgusting.

Bathroom carpeting has always creeped me out. Carpeting in the KITCHEN? It's not a meal if I haven't spilled something on the kitchen floor, so..... yuck.

My favorite mopping strategy involves an old bath towel rather than a mop. Soak it in soapy water, wring it out, then spread it on the floor, put one foot on each end and basically skate/dance your way around the surface to be cleaned. Your weight gives you much more pressure to scrub away anything stuck on the floor than a mop does (a little brisk toe-rubbing with the towel usually does it.) When you're finished, rinse the towel, go over the floor again, then follow with a dance through the area with a dry towel. You can add music if it helps your mood.

This is something I came up with during the third or fourth pregnancy. Or maybe it was the second or third; they all run together at this point. :-) It's a nice alternative to having to lean over a mop.
